Thought I had a good roulette strategy - (I'm an idiot)

Hi

Made a new account as I know people irl that know my forum name.

Basically, been doing a bit of gambling past year or so - have got progressively worse from being prepared at losing £5, then £20, then £50 etc etc. I seem to get worse when people around me get worse, then I get easily influenced.

I basically did a bit of research into a few methods of playing roulette and thought last night I'd give it a go on the online roulette tables. Long story short.

I put in £85, lost stupidly.
Put in another £50 on same technique, lost again.
Got a bit mad, so went all out and put another £100 on red to try and recover slightly and it came out.

At this point I had £200 in my balance, still down £35. Then some how using another technique/strategy/whatever I slowly got it up to £420. Didn't really lose, just kept betting £5 - if it came out I'd rebet and if it didn't I'd double it etc.

Basically had another quick go this morning, and within 10 minutes I lost the lot.

Don't know why I'm posting really, my own fault - I should probably quit but I quite enjoy it. Especially if I go casino with friends, its a nice feeling when you win.

I don't even know if I'm addicted, I'm not wasting money which I need for bills - it's just disposable income and I can happily walk past a bookies/casino without feeling the urge. It's just when I am actually there I just turn into someone I'm not.

/rant over?

I once thought I had a strategy for roulette. Part of my brain said you're an idiot - so I tested it in MatLab, confirmed my idiocy, and didn't lose any money.

I used that strategy once, but with BLackjack. It was back when you could make good money with the sign up bonuses, and it was my first go at it.

It's stupid, doesn't work and will just lose your money quicker than flat betting.

Chasing losses is never a good thing, like any gambling it's fine if you want to do it but know how much your willing to lose and don't throw good money after bad. Have a bankroll and stick to it.

Also, naughty boy. You're only allowed 1 account here..

The strategy of doubling the bet each time will lose theoretically works assuming there are no limits to betting and you have a huge/unlimited amount of money. In the real world however, it doesn't work and a row of bad luck will take all your money.

was the strategy to just keep putting it all on red?

If it was red, I'd bet red again and so forth till it was black - I'd then put double on black and if black came out I'd do a normal stake on black again until red came out then double up on red again etc etc

You can't ever win at gambling, the house always wins, it just leads to a downward spiral until you're homeless and jacking off guys for cheap booze

This was exactly it, has the unluckiest streak I've seen in my life...

Having a roulette strategy is akin to having a lottery strategy. Both are games of pure chance.

Strong first post, BTW.

I think you have answered your first query (underlined) with the last part (underlined). Don't need us to tell you that. This is most likely why you've made a new account because deep down you know you are addicted and you are hiding it or attempting to do so. Sort it out before you are not using disposable income.

You never see a poor bookie do you...wonder why.

There is no sure way to beat the bookies, it doesn't exist.

I do very small footy bets...you win some, you lose some...And when I say small i mean 20p-30p accas...

Grab a "Probabilities for dummies" type of book, read it and if you understand it you'll find it much harder to gamble/play the lottery in the future.
