Thoughts on circumcision?

Can't believe I'm joining in with this thread but hey ho. Had it done as a small child when I made a mess after I caught it in a zip! Communal showers at school etc always provoked the question "Yozz, are you Jewish?". Always hated having to explain myself but I can laugh now. All I care is that it works and the missus likes it.

Edit: It's a barbaric and pointless thing to do, don't know how parents can allow their child to go through that pain.

Pretty much this. It's discusting and irresponsible for parents to inflict this on a young child. IF there is no medical reason for having it done then leave be... My two cents.

I am glad I was done when I was little. 6ish i think? Medical reasons.

The idea of having a foreskin is just odd to me.

All these guys saying "my girlfriend says she prefers it", well as a cut guy, funnily enough, all my GFs have said the same thing, and only 2 of them were Jewish!

A girl is hardly going to tell you she prefers other guys bits, is she.. Women are much more emotionally aware than men, and will 99% of the time just tell you what you want to hear when it comes to your penis.

So, whatever you have (or dont have?) just enjoy your penis :)

I concur. Don't see the point in it unless for medical reasons. We have evolved with it, so obviously its there for a reason.

We have an appendix too. That evolved, and is not there for any reason anymore..

That argument does not stand. When things go wrong they need to be removed :)

I think I will want my kids done (if i have any boys!), medical reasons or not.

True i guess. But when you say "When things go wrong they need to be removed", nothing goes 'wrong' with the foreskin at birth and nothing may go 'wrong' for the rest of the mans life. As i said if there is a medical reason that i should be removed, then of course it should be.

But if i ever have children, i will let them decide if they want it removed or not, and even then if its a condition like phimosis, i will get them to use the other methods like stretching and topical steroids first before i would ever consider circumcision.

No way would i ever want to mutilate mine or recommend anyone to mutilate their penis with circumcision.

You've only had it 6 months.

Initially, due to the sensitivity of being covered for your life, it will be good, but over time it will desensitise. Guys who have it done as babies are already at that stage by the time they mature sexually, it might take a while for you to get there.

Im 24 and i am very sensetive ;)

My children will genetically more likely to experience the same issue, thats enough of a reason for me to do it to my kids. If it stops them from having to go through the pain and trauma later on in life, then I am all for it :)

Will you have their appendix removed too?

If I was pre-disposed to having an such an appendix issue then I would consider it too. However, it is a much more invasive procedure, and would carry more potential complications.

Some peoples kids might be more genetically likely to develop serious heart conditions so we should end it right there and then to avoid potential suffering?

Sorry, I can sort of see where you are coming from but this is an irreversible mutilation without any good cause.

Don't fix what is not broke. If it breaks, evaluate the APPLICABLE options (which my be completely different to what you had) then take a view. Circumcision is never necessary, it's an option of many available.

What possible pain and trauma is so bad that circumcision would instantly alleviate as if said pain and trauma instantly came on?

haha made me laugh

I had it done as a kid, i didn't know much about it apart from it hurt like hell after. The reason i think was the skin being too tight and causing problems, can't remember now and i don't exactly want to go asking my mom now im 24

The sensetivity thing is not an issue at all, infact it works better as you are aroused quicker :p My GF also preferes how it looks.

Same situation for me, and same result :D

Had it done when I was a little baby for some medical reason or another and I have never had a cause to complain, neither have the ladies :p

The first would depend entirely on the circumstances, and "heart condition" is pretty vague, so its not possible to answer. I also would not be able to decide unless I was in such a situation.

What pain and trauma? Tearing your foreskin, or getting it stuck, or the pain of not being able to retract it.

Oh, and calling it a "mutilation" is just odd. Its a small day surgery procedure. It has no ill effects, and i dont think you will find many bloke who are circumcised who will agree with you that they have been "mutilated".

I have come to the conclusion that its impossible to have a frank conversation with men when the penis is involved. We are unfortunatly so wrapped up with our own being so amazing, we could never contemplate being different.

Men who have had the procedure done later in life (as mentioned in this thread) have suffered no long term ill effects.

It's a mutilation as per the definition, I can get my arm taken off in a rather civilised and controlled surgical procedure but it would still be a mutilation. I am not saying it causes any ill effects, I have not once made a single claim that either cut or uncut is better or worse. I merely advocate that it should be a chiefly self made decision to have cut and that alternative methods in medical circumstances (no pun intended) exist.

Even severe cases of phimosis can be dealt with without circumcision, getting it stuck is going to hurt like getting anything else stuck (yet we do not lob it off) and you would have to be pretty savage to manage ripping it! There are pretty standard procedures and observations that can be made of a growing child that can evaluate whether issues will arise later in maturity. Lobbing it off at birth just in case seems somewhat hasty and uninformed.

What is not frank about this conversation? This is my opinion and I do not think I am making absurd claims or observations?
