So happily booting up tomb raider 2013, watching all the pretty scenes and then all hell breaks loose, Lara's back trouble etc, but then, did i just hear right, Lara swore :o.
Now don't get me wrong, i understand the making it real thing but really is it necessary for Lara to swear, i thought of her as a wholesome ;) young woman.

Interested in peoples opinions of language in game?

To be fair the game is an 18.

With all the gore going down, the swearing doesn't really surprise me. It was going to be rated highly for all the violence so a bit of swearing doesn't matter in my opinion.

If a games rating was changed just because of the swearing, I would see it as very pointless. Since swearing doesn't seem to add too much to a game.

The swearing ain't to bad in this game compared to some games like splinter cell conviction.

I don't enjoy overdone swearing to be honest.

Somebody will post about you complaining about swearing but not about shooting people in a bit. :p

Id much rather have her swear, i feel its a lot more realistic rather than have her break an arm and say "fiddlesticks that's painful!" Ruins the realism in my opinion.

Newsflash: they swear too.

Only bothers me when it's every other word like in your average, generic dudebro military shooter. Doesn't offend me, it just makes the game and the script writers look stupid.

Games like Uncharted and Tomb Raider don't have much swearing at all really, and it's not used casually either so I don't see a problem.

Not really bothered by it, just being devils advocate and seeing what other people views are, the only time it bothers me is when i can't play a game because i'm looking after niece and wouldn't want her picking up words ;)

I really don't mind swearing, it doesn't bother me in the slightest but I felt it was VERY overused in Bulletstorm, the point where it just got annoying.

I like swearing in games. Its realistic people are (in general) terribly spoken now days and every 3rd word is a curse. However it makes me cringe when they say it so forced and false. Like they added a swear word for the sake of adding it. Rather than because its appropriate.

+1

I reckon its written like that to make kids think the game is good

(not that they should really be allowed to play them)

If it's relevant (i.e. for realism purposes) then I don't have a problem with it. Excessive bad language for the sake of it is a little silly though! I don't think it's any different to movies, television series etc :)

Shooting people in the head - ok.

Swearing - very bad.

Wut?

LOL, I fired up Uncharted 2 for the first time in a couple of years earlier today and one of the first things my wife commented on was the swearing (probably because I didn't know WTF I was doing and get kept getting spotted, so they cussed every time) :)
