Thoughts on pre-orders

I got burned by BF4 pre-order in a big way. Love the game but it was a POS on release, it's better now but it's almost 9 months on!

Will be pre-ordering GTAV, don't care if it a poor port I need that game in my life.

Not anymore. I dabbled in pre ordering with GTA V and BF4. GTA V was a fairly safe bet, I had followed everything about the game for the 2 years after the first trailer and no one had anything negative to say about it.

But BF4 was a game changer for me. I loved and still love bf3 - but bf4 was such a cataclysmic failure for all the obvious reasons plus about 20 non obvious ones that I will not preorder a game again unless I have a very good reason to do so.

For most games there is little to no point in pre-ordering, it's just a risk.

The only game I have ever pre-ordered was Borderlands 2, because I was incredibly stoked about it.

Was not disappointed. :D

Never pre-order. Wait for the gameplay footage, lets plays, and reviews.

This ^ I've been burned too many times, only if I know what its going to be like and trust the company 100% I will consider pre-ordering

I'll most likey pre-order CD Red's The Witcher 3

To be honest I really dislike 'exclusive' pre-order content.

The main reason I preorder is laziness, I like to forget that I've even ordered the game and then have it turn up on my doorstep after I come home from work on the day of release

Put's a big :D on my face

The last Gsme I pre-ordered was Skyrim,

Not that I got a good price (I paid the going rate) but I knew I wanted it.

There is no game since I have actually HAD TO HAVE. :)

Kinda like a surprise gift :D

I've never pre-ordered anything, never felt the need to, and as previously mentioned, most games don't deserve it, they withhold demos for a reason! Call me old fashioned but I used to love getting the latest game mag from the shops each month, ones that had tapes stuck to it, full of demos and maybe a full game as well, but in those days, games in general concentrated on gameplay and not just graphics! Just my opinion :)

going to pre-order the pre-order simulator 20xy (xy as who knows when it will be released ;) ) :p

ay these buy in betas are annoying too... but I'm tempted by archage dammnit! :(

I've never pre ordered a game, but the only one I will is Mass Effect 4. However, I will probably just wait until release and get a cheaper CD Key from DLCompare.

Only if I've played demo/beta or seen enough gameplay footage. Most of the games I've pre-ordered had been MMORPGs though which I would usually play on beta weekends prior to release. You mostly get a headstart and other bonuses with these as well.

You get everything you deserve when you part with cash for a product that hasn't been picked apart by the press, or even better, peers tbh

Never

Why give a developer money for producing nothing, its like saying here Mr Milkman take this £1000 for the milk for the next year, only COWS are dead and its really seepage from small birds.

Lol, it's nothing like that :D

I just don't see the point of pre ordering these days.

My personal opinion is to avoid pre-ordering the current gen games as they've been nothing but a total failure. BF4 and Watchdogs as prime examples of hyped up rubbish!

+1 nearly all the hyped pre-orders from the last 1-2 years have been disappointments

Pre-ordering isn't what it used to be since DD. Now there are some exceptions like Witcher 3 through GOG. But all you're doing now is pre-purchashing games/studios you're loyal to.
