Thoughts on the new GTX?

Two things,
1) im blatently getting either the new rev GTS or the new GTX as soon as there realeased :) (or even a GT if the GTX is a long way away)

2) i cant see how nvidia can call there next card 9800....

Nvidia GeForce 9800GT
ATi Radeon 9800Pro

Lolz, were in a time warp boys...

lol its fairly simple, the g92 is just g80 on smaller die + they added a few texture units thats about it.

the gtx is simple a current gtx + the extra texture units the new core has. the only things missing on the GT are the extra 16 whole pipes. remember gts current 96 pipes vs gtx 128 pipes. the gt already has one more unit active, the gts might ahve all 128, the gtx won't have ANY more than 128. it physically can't be much faster than a current gtx, it will have marginally higher clocks.

as for loadsamoney, lol, the new GT kills the gtx? i can't remember if it even beats it in one game at 1680x1050/1920x1200. the problem with internet people is the tendancy to exagerate. "new card obliterates old card (small print, its 0..01% faster)". kills is overstating it. the GT doesn't best an old GTS in every single game, far from it. plenty of games the GTS is STILL ahead. sure reviews use NO AA, or ridiculous resolutions, EVEN in those best case scenarios the GT is rarely more than 10% ahead of the gts.

if you buy anything from a 2900 pro up to a 8800gts 640 (which includes the GT) you will basically not see much of a difference in playability of 1680x1050 or 1920x1200 resolutions, and everything below is ridiculously fast on all those cards. 1920x1200 is basically still noticeably faster in newer games on the gtx/ultra, and a couple games in lower res aswell. anyone that says different is exagerating/doesn't OWN these cards.

stats can be twisted to show ANYTHING you want. actual experience using these cards will give you a vastly different view.

I seriously doubt we're going to see anything of the sort until next year.

Actually i'll take "there or there abouts"! :D

I think the ATi and nVidia GX2 cards will probably be around double the speed of a single 2900XT in a game that's well coded for Crossfire/SLi, I may go for one of those.

Also, when you consider that the GTX is what... somewhere in the region of 30-50% faster depending on game and levels of AA/AF, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the GTX refresh to get quite close to double the 2900XT performance.

8800 series GT and GTS will be revisions.

There will be no revisions for the GTX/Ultra.

These will be the 9800 series G92, Starting off with 9800GTX, then a month or so down the line, the 9800Ultra will appear.

Expect the 9800GTX to hit before Christmas.

Are you sure? I thought the GTX was getting a bump to bring it back into line with nVidia's ordering system.

GTX > GTS > GT ???

Yeh this is what I thought was happening. Can't say I've seen anything other than pure speculation on forums about a new GTX.

Personally i will keep my set up in sig until it wont play the games i enjoy at the res/settings i like.
I will then buy a completely new CPU/Mobo/Mem/Gfx solution.
Give the current one to my son.
His current system to my daughter.
Her system to anybody who wants it.
I prefer to upgrade the whole system personally

Id be amazed at the new 9800GTX coming out before christmas, happy but amazed. Tbh the new 9800 will never come out till ATi get a decent card out. Theuy are already serposidly releasing cards which arn't as fast as the current GTX. Could be a while. Early next year i say.

I'm sure we'll have the HD4400XT out next year sometime, oh it's wait just gonna be another rehash of the R600 if anything, so nVidia will still be sitting on their 8800 GTX/Ultra cards. :D

Im contemplatign two GTS in SLI but i can just see that 3 months down the line the new 9800 comes out for about 450 quid (which wiould have been the same cost of the two GTS) and totaly smash them :(
