Thoughts on using your real name for a domain?

I have benjisayers.co.uk as some smart-ass decided to setup a golf company years ago called Ben Sayers :p so that was never going to be an option and BenjaminSayers.co.uk seemed to just be too long a domain imo.

Used to have the .co.uk but forgot about it. Now have the .net and love it.

Confuses dumb people on the phone a lot though, who obv think hotmail is the only address you can have.

Gmail certainly is not slow :p

It might go down for a few hours once a year but it's the most accessible and functional with your own domain!

Well I prefer to use a client like thunderbird, and it takes a few minutes if I wanted to put my own webmail client on my server.

I own phi1.org.uk had an offer from somebody to buy it but I use it for my email. Linked to google and then use it on my phone and can have my email all over the world easily.

Edit: Can a don move this thread to GD? As I think I would get more feedback there, thanks

A part of me likes this idea. It is like your piece of the web which is linked to your real identity for sharing blogs/thoughts/interests.

I have registered a few domains in the past, but always want to go back to using my name for a site.

Another part of me though feels this could lead to some possible problems with privacy and the loss of anonymity down the road.

What do you think? I know we have a few members here that openly share their full name in their website domain.

I have my own domain. My whole family have their email addresses with [email protected] :P

I've got my file dump site as a .com but I share my name with a "well respected" (published books, appeared in parliment etc) British 9/11 conspiracy theorist so I had to add a little something to the blank index.html so looneys would stop pestering me with their visions of Alien Overlords etc thinking I was this conspiracy guy.

Given the choice between firstname-surname.co.uk and firstnamesurname.eu which do you think is better? I think the .co.uk is better but the 2nd one doesn't require me to say forename hyphen surname when telling someone it.

Do you really want FirstNameSurname.xx ? Off course it's your choice, I would just go for a Surname.xx. Check this site, they have some nice short domains .xx :D https://www.godaddy.com/

I have a very common surname so that is not possible. Besides I want to host a website at my name in the future so having both names is preferable.
