I am using Celeron/Atom CPUs atm and figured a needed a higher performing CPU. I don't want the CPU to be too modern because I don't want the CPU to end up with an integrated government GPS trigger. I thought of the i7 but it is too new, how good is the performance on the i5? I have used a core2due and performance is poor. My current CPU is around 1-2GHz and I can't remember the clock frequency on the core2duo.

The i5 & i7s have been around the same length of time in various generations.

What do you use the pc for?

Cache: 4.0 MB
Clock Frequency: 3.00 GHz
Threads / Cores: 2 / 4
Oooooh SEXY!

Now one last question, has anyone used this CPU and what was your experience with it?

Thats a mobile processor so you need to find a motherboard to take the cpu other than a laptop - unless your after one?

Yep however later in the future when I leave this country a base unit is my plan for right now just mobile.

Hi there,

May I ask what you would be using the PC for and do you have a budget in mind?

Edit: (Slow response due to researching the "kill switch" thing) For your uses an i7 4770K with a Z87 board would be ideal - though an i5 would be a good option if your budget can't support an i7.

Also, do you have any parts you will want to re-use?

As for Intel's anti-theft tech, I believe that only affects Intel CPUs with vPro - so none of the K series i5 or i7 chips are affected by that.

No everything is old so I'll be looking for a mainboard that can accept my choice of CPU. I wont be scraping/selling the old hardware tho, it will be being repurposed.
