Throwing up during exercise... When to eat?

Ok, so I've been doing kickboxing for the last few months.

Almost on every other occasion I manage to get myself to the point where I need 2 walk straight to the toilets and get rid of whatever I've got still inside me.

I'm fine straight afterwards, but its just embarrasing and annoying that I have to make a dash for the bogs!

Last week I had an apple and a banana 2 hours before, but still managed to throw it up.

Today I'm eating pasta with tomato and cheese inside, in tomato sauce - 3 hours and 20mins before I start kickboxing. Think I'll keep it down?

Place your bets...

p.s. does anyone else take Lucozade energy tablets before working out? I've got a feeling it's those that are causing it. I take 2 before I start kickboxing and drink fluids throughout the session.

Maybe you're pushing yourself too hard if you're throwing up every other session.

Understandable if you've just started but it sounds like you've been training for a while.

try not eating for a couple of hours before and only having a few sips during training not much. (may not be healthy but experiment and try). Then have a decent meal afterwards.

I've been doing it from September - December, and January - now. I don't think its fitness as I can carry on after being sick - I feel great after I'm sick. My instructor says its a good sign, that I'm actually pushing myself to my limit. But it's awkward when you're working out with a partner and you have to keep leaving them to go throw up.

Anyone think a 15min walk will walk some of it off?? I've got till 5pm but I fancy speeding up the digestion a little :p

I need to go to the cash point so its an excuse to get out for a bit.

Your instructor must be a few planks short of a deck. You are pushing yourself too hard if you are throwing up every time.

Don't eat anything for a few hours before and just drink water during and afterwards.

It's not every time, its occasionally, sometimes every other session. Other people manage to avoid throwing up, so it's only myself who's got the problem!

I'll report back after training to say how it went! :)

Even so, it sounds like you are pushing yourself too hard. Remember the other people may have a higher fitness level/more tolerance.

Your body is telling you something!

Before training you need to take those calories in, but you need to avoid having large amounts of food in your stomach.

I'll can generally cope with a light meal about two hours before training and then maybe a banana an hour before and a handfull of nuts (insert own joke here).

If you spread your meals out, eating a little, but more often you won't go to training with a gut full of food.

You might get more info in the Sports Section.

Try eating something healthy before you train too. Not a dirty pizza, how about some slow releasing carbs!

Why are you taking energy tablets???

An apple before training.. I wouldn't eat an apple before training.. It's too acidy.

Try eating complex carbos not less than an hour before training. Weat-a-bix is good one or a bagel with banana. You don't want anything too rich either.

Quality . . when I used to box I used to feel the same, but I've never thrown up. I just used to eat very little before training and train on an empty stomach. Worked wonders for me and after having a good, hard sparring/brawling session is the best feeling ever
