Thunderstorms

Lightning strike from earlier in Manchester (not my pic).

It's causing all sorts of havoc with signalling at Manchester Piccadilly. Of course I needed to use the trains today!

Had a thunder storm just in time for going to work, the sheer amount of rain overwhelmed the drains and flooded most of the roads on my journey. This drain was now a particularly spectacular fountain!

Tell me about it, had to go and shut the car up as it set its alarm off. Big storm, bigger than Ive seen in a long time.

Judging by the clouds at the moment it isnt over.

Yeah it's been pretty crazy. Just driven to Evesham for work and at a couple of points I was doing 15mph, wipers on max and couldn't see the car in front, or even if I was driving on road or through floods! Unbelievable amounts of rain!

Nothing here whatsoever, it was sunny when I woke up! Just starting to cloud over here so hoping for some thunder - it's still very warm and humid.

Holy crap, we just had one right over head at work, power went out, and when I looked out the window there was a lot of smoke over one of the buildings.

Everyone on FB this morning was talking about it, but I sleep on the ground floor with the room which has the back door on it to the car port, I sleep with the door open to get the coolest temps possible and I heard NOTHING. The plastic roof of the carport is tremendously loud when it rains but nothing woke me up :(

This thunderstorm is pathetic.

The rain is minimal, lightning and thunder is infrequent and by the looks of it, it will be over before lunch time !

It's been raining heavily since about 5am here in West Midlands with some thunder and lightening thrown in. The thunder claps are some of the biggest I've heard (more like loud bangs than rumbles) and are shaking my bedroom windows. I love it! :D

My dog wasn't sure this morning, but she doesn't seem bothered now. She just has a quick look up and then goes back to sleep.

UK will never have longer than 20 minutes of thunderstorms in the last 9 years now. The best storm is severe electric storms back in 2004 and lasted all night, the best one. Since then, it all crappy not much!

Overall, I love the USA lightning, one of the fearsome! UK never get biggest storms than USA. I am sick of tired of newspaper, weather forecasters kept saying severe or heavy thunderstorms! Get real!

Totally.

Our storms never last long, sadly nothing will ever beat the experience of Hurricane Irene when I was in the Dominican. This is followed by the tropical storm I was in at the Kennedy Space Centre, that went on all afternoon/night and was crazy looking for a motel in torrential rain.

We've had some close lightning strikes in the UK over the years, but they just don't last.

Yep, I think it lack of lightning in UK now. Some say it will get more thunderstorms in UK because of climate change (I don't believe any of it) The best storms had to be in USA, Africa and Australia.

Just some low rumbles and light rain so far in Fife. I don't expect we'll get a decent storm up here as the current temps are only half of what you lot have down south atm.
