Long shutter speeds are generally how they are caught. But you will definitely need a tripod or sit it on something

The trick is to take the photo before you hear the lightning bolt

I think I just witnessed the most amazing spectacle mother nature has put on show. Nearly two hours of thunder that echoed through the valleys for well over 20 seconds each time, sounding like explosion after explosion. And fork lightning spanning the entire horizon and my field of vision. The lightning was more frequent than the thunder, as if someone flicked on a light switch and illuminated the entire sky above me in colours of violet. So bright that I had after images in my eyes of fork lightning that split into at least 6 parts. This was no ordinary storm, I've seen many and for me, this was a once in a lifetime experience.

Amazed how accurate to the second that lighting tracker is. As soon as the sound wave passes over your location you hear it.

We are onto round two in Crawley. The first lot woke me with a jump and the dog really doesn't like it so is snuggled on the bed with us which is unheard of.

Thursday's lightning was crazy, was watching outside and small pulse-like/orb-like explosions from afar.
