Tia Sharp

Statistically i think the figure is that 7 of 10 people who the police ask to do the appeal for on tv turn out to be the guilty person.............

The police ask relatives to do this and study the tv footage with experts to assess how the person behaves and acts.

Sadly it seems to be an all too common these days. You can't let your kids out of your sight because of what might happen to them, but you never think that the dangers you warn your kid's about will come from inside your own family, and I use the term loosely in this situation.

Hope the little girl is found soon.Surely no-one would be dumb enough to try another Shannon Matthews situation.

In the majority of these cases, the perpetrator/kidnapper/murderer knew the victim and in a surprising number of those cases, it's family.

Theres definitely a Shannon Matthews vibe on this.

I hope not and she just turns up though! Though its rarely the case when they launch TV appeals

Seems there might be some truth to what you say

BBC said:
Police from the force that investigated the kidnapping of Shannon Matthews are involved in the search for missing schoolgirl Tia Sharp, Scotland Yard has confirmed.

Tia, 12, disappeared on Friday on her way to shop at the Whitgift Centre in Croydon, south London.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police are involved to draw on their expertise.

Expertise in finding a missing person or expertise in investigations involving family members?

Found some stats

http://www.dewar4research.org/docs/chom.pdf

A parent is the principal suspect/perpetrator in 50% to 70% of all family
child homicides
· Male parents are responsible for about two thirds of family child homicides
and female parents about one third
· Biological fathers are responsible for about 55% of murders of their own
offspring and biological mothers about 45%
In the 6-year period 1995/96 to 2000/01, a total of 296 children were murdered by their
biological parents, 160 by fathers and 136 by mothers
(12)
. In addition, a total of 56 children
were killed by their step-parents, 54 by stepfathers and two by stepmothers

Funnily enough in practically all the cases where it's turned out to be the step parent, it is nearly always the step-father.

Police investigating the disappearance of missing schoolgirl Tia Sharp have sealed off an area around her grandmother's home in south London.

Tia, 12, vanished after leaving the home in New Addington, Croydon, to go shopping exactly a week ago.

About 20 uniformed officers arrived at the house at lunchtime and sealed off both ends of an alleyway. A police helicopter was seen hovering overhead.

Interesting - seems like they've at least found something of relevance to send 20 officers to seal off an alleyway like that.

edit - nevermind, they've updated the wording slightly, part of a pre-planned search etc. so not quite as interesting as it first seemed.

hang on, hang on..I am confused

the 37 year oldman (mr hazel) is the partner of the 46 year old grandmother..but before that he was the partner/boyfriend of his current partners (the granny) daughter??!

lolwut?!?! how does that happen?!

Quite telling though. All eyewitnesses put her on making the tram/bus/tube whatever so doing a thorough search of her grandma's house and grounds means they might be looking closer to home

You neve watched Jeremy Kyle?????????????

I hope for this isn't simply something 'fun' to do over the summer holidays, huge waste of police time if so.

Put them all in the stocks and allow us to throw tomatoes at them.

well something like 99% of these cases always involve a member of the family or a friend - the police have to look.

It does seem foul play from the family isn't too unlikely, but at the same time, 12, definitely old enough to actively run away surely?

Not quite, it;s up to 70% in some years, I posted the stats a few posts up.

But on any investigation of a child suspected dead, if in 7 out of 10 cases it was the parents plus the other cases when it was other family members like uncles, grandparents etc, I know where I would be spending my time with the police investigation...............

Runaway with a tenner and not your mobile which you are addicted to?

The mobile makes no sense. Seen the mother say that she is glued to it and puts it on charge every night. Yet the step grandfather/uncle/half cousin by marriage - whatever said she didn't take her phone as he told her it was flat and he had just put it on charge........... something doesn't add up tbh.
