Till rant

I'm getting fed up with this, people take so long at the self-service tills in supermarkets it's ridiculous, they stand there for ages ringing their items through and DON'T put them into the plastic bag immediately, they then let them pile up, pay for them, then put them in the plastic bag and it takes TWICE as long, they seem to have no sense of urgency or cognisance of the people behind them, it's all me me me I can take as long as I like is there anyone else around, ah so what I don't care, well I was at the till today and the guy next to me was piling his stuff up and he dropped his sausage roll and I didn't pick it up for him HAH.

Epic dig/troll post :D

It's just supermarket customers in general. Time for a rant!

Either at the self-scan checkout struggling to use the self-scan checkout, then those who have a voucher from a newspaper in a confused state or in Sainsbury's, the customers using SmartShop, however leaving it until they are at the entrance to the self-scan bank of checkouts before going into the app.

Then there are the people that go to an actual checkout and starting a conversation with the till jockey who is clearly wanting to get on and serve the ever-growing queue of impatient customers.

Checkouts aside, then there are the people who think it is acceptable to completely block an aisle to have a conversation with one of their friends. Or of course the customers who stand in the way of some of the shelves for ages with other customers wanting to get to a product on the same shelf deciding what it is they want to buy, almost as though they are choosing their last supper!

Something you pick up on though in supermarket management. At least they are boosting my share price and paying my salary! - From that perspective however you then get the customers complaining that something has moved (when it hasn't) or because an item has gone up in price by 5 pence (inflation, Russia and all that).

Aren't scanners attached to trolleys so it's hands-free, versus having a phone in one hand, whilst also steering around obstacles, manipulating products, reading shopping list.

Aldi solved the letting good pile up conundrum, by providing little space to hold them, so you are obliged to pack as you go.

still haven't reverted to carrying a wallet , just credit card.

Even worse when you are queuing for 15 mins to get to a checkout and then someone drops 2 full 4 pints of milk n they smash on the floor.

Milk smashes on the floor? Who does glass bottles today?

I do this sometimes, why should I rush?

What I'd love to know is where is the race? What's everyone in such a hurry for? Or is it todays society for lack of tolerance...

I had someone in the queue in front of me ask for some cigarettes, when they were scanned he complained bitterly about the price and made the poor woman at the till scan several different packets (of the same brand, size etc) because he thought there might be cheaper ones in amongst them somewhere. I gave up bickering with strangers many moons ago but this got a right old tutting noise from me...that told him.

I like the scan and go thing, pack my bag as I shop + scan items in, straight to scan and go till (never a wait) to pay and out.

Go to Tesco.
Scan clubcard
Collect the hand scanner it releases
Walk around shop, selecting the required products, scan them and bag them
Go to the zapper checkout tills (which are always, always empty)
Zap the barcode on the till, wait for my items to transfer
Pay
Leave

I'm grateful not many people do this, there's never a queue at the checkouts and my cheese is already bagged.

Even the local Asda has the zappers now.

This is changing, people are cottoning on. Definitely noticing more folks using them. Even had to wait just this Saturday gone :(

a lot of the time people can resolve the bag (or item) issue by taking it off the scales and then putting back down again but a lot of people get annoyed and hit the assistance button.

The people with trollies full of shopping now tie up the self service tills as the supermarkets said how the self serve would be quicker and here we are years later when they start closing checkouts or having them open at certain times of the day.

I dont get how people where happy to pay the same price, do the checkout process themselves and the supermarkets laugh at the money they save.

I'll bet that was amusing to watch.

The people of Ukraine wish to extend their sympathies. They're sorry to hear that you're suffering.

Why do people do this? Yes there are people worse off, there always is. Just because there is a new conflict, don't you realise there are another 36 wars currently raging across the globe?

They tend to make fantastic checkout operators though.

They really do.

Mate, it's a harmless joke about first world problems. No big deal.

I use the scan and shop on my phone, so I scan and bag my shopping as I go around the shop. You then just have to scan a barcode at the till. However, what really boils my **** is when it flashes the red light for a 'random' check and some spotty **** has to start rooting through all your carefully packed shopping to scan three or four items. Not only that, but they disappear for five minutes to find the handset they need and to log themselves in.

Why go to a supermarket at all? Order online (I use Amazon Fresh) and get everything delivered a few hours later and gain some quality paper bags that double up and as ways to line pet boxes, wrap packages, line cupboard shelves etc.

Do things the smart way.
