Gritty Jimmy McGovern prison drama. Watched the first episode tonight. Thought it was brilliant. Dark, shocking and gripping. Sean Bean and Stephen Graham are great. It’s only 3 episodes, so not a slog.

One of those quality shows I’m happy to pay my TV licence for.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check this out.
Unfortunately, although my wife shares my admiration of Stephen Graham's acting abilities, both of us putting him in the relatively not really well known, (yet), bracket with Eddie Marsan, she cannot stand Sean Bean, so I’ll have to download this, and watch it when she’s asleep.
She says, “I see him, and want to kiss him all over, and then he speaks.”
It’s no doubt the same as I am with Cheryl Tweedy, or Cole, one look and I want to drink her bath water, then she opens her mouth, but I’m weak, I’d probably still drink it.

Definitely will watch this when I have some time. Broken with McGovern/Bean was outstanding as well, though bleak for large stretches.

what's with watching all 3 ... it's like stuffing you face with a box of nice chocolates, or ripping open all your birthday presents in 5 minutes -
lets' have some respect for nice work.
would you chew your way through breaking bad or dexter.

BTW, if anyone’s remotely interested, which I doubt, it was filmed in Shrewsbury Prison, a very old prison which shut down in the early 2000’s and is now used for filming, tours and ghost hunts.

Ricky Tomlinson did 2 years in there in the 70’s for fighting on a picket line. Also held Donald Neilson, the Black Panther.

didn't know which one, but interview with mcgovern on r4 said they chose an older style prison - well maybe they didn't have an option,
rather than a modern style with mod-cons (they cited scandies as the most avant-garde) - modern maybe an eye opener;
nonetheless, I was surprised the portrayed ones had electric kettles.

On the basis that we’re all entitled to an opinion, 2 years wasn’t enough, the soi-disant “political prisoner” should have got life without parole, preferably on the same wing as Scargill :rolleyes:

That didn’t come out right, I said that he should have got life, not @robfosters :eek:

Binged it all last night. Was a good uncomfortable watch all the way through. It's got the right element of a few nutters with the majority being normal people in the background just getting on with things as opposed to full scale riots every 5 minutes!

Nice and grounded and felt fairly realistic, no over the top stuff happening all the time to keep up interest. 3 episodes was a good length, any more and would feel needlessly dragged out.
