I have just bought a Time Capsule from Apple at Brent Cross.

I'm having some difficulty setting it up and I don't really understand the manual.

Any help would be appreciated.

I currently want to back up my PC as my MacBook Pro does not arrive until Tuesday.

Thanks.

So many people said it was easy to set up. I have certainly not found it easy (it still isn't set up). I was not told it had to be connected to my ISP router. The G-Drives look quite good.

I'm in the Airport Utility. I have clicked on the internet icon at the top.

You said,

"Under wifi, I've got it setup as WPA2. Then under wireless options I've enabled the dual radios so I get 5ghz/2.4ghz for better throughput and no downspeeding when G devices connect.

This is all the config you should need to get your TC acting as an access point, with the fastest possible wifi speeds for your TC backups when you MacBook arrives. "

I have tabs for internet connection, TCP/IP/DHCP and NAT.

Where do I go for the first step you recommended?

Thanks.

Well I think I am connected. My TC has a green light, and I am currently connected to the internet through my new Apple TC.

Now with regards to using the disk, I enable file sharing, this is done.

Secure shared disks is"with device password". I am the only one using it.

Airport disks guest access is "not allowed".

I have given the workgroup a name.

What is the WINS Server?

I changed the name of my Windows workgroup and on Airport Utility. However, in Airport Utility I got an error saying this:

"An error occurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again".

Still got a green light on the front of the TC?

Machine still connected to the access point off the TC?

Still able to get to the Internet?

Workgroup shouldn't make any difference to the authentication, I would expect that to be done using the Bonjour protocol (Apple's version of ZeroConf wifi).

Alas, I digress. Restart the Airport app, if that doesn't do it restart your PC.

Yes, yes, yes.

I will restart the airport utility.
