Ok so I'm in the market for my first ever gpu I have it narrowed down to two gpu's ether the gtx580 or the new 680. The reason I'm thinking about the 580 is because there is going to be a lot of bargains out there with people upgrading to the 680. If it was you what would you buy?

Depends. If I could afford it, a 680 would be hard to resist.

That being said a second hand 580 could be great value for money. Really is up to you! Whether you want VFM or outright performance.

my first gpu was a geforce 3 @ £350

What a waste of money that was, stayed top end for a good few weeks >.<

i have vowed never to buy top end again, though i have have cold sweats looking at the shiny 660's i mean 680's

680 or 7970, which ever brand floats your boat. Just get the best you can afford!

What resolution will you be using ?

I'll be gaming on my tv which is 1080p. But plan on getting a good monitor in the future. Really can't make my mind up what to go for. Dont see the point in the 7950 for £70 more could get a far better card like 680 or 7970. Also getting cold feet with a lot of people thinking navida has another card they are holding back on

If you overclock a 7950 (easy as pish) you end up with an "out of the box" 7970.

It's not rocket science mate. If anything Nvidia have made the 7950 more worth buying than ever today.

It's got so much going for it. You know? it's that card that can meet the big boys in a fight yet costs far less.

If you have no problems paying £430 then get either a 7970 or 680 as there's very little in it. Or wait a few weeks for prices to come down.

Is it really that easy to overclock a card I'm a bit afraid off frying it lol. I'm a bit of a Xbox fan boy am I going to notice a massive improvement in graphics with a 7950?

Doddle with afterburner or even CCC. Sapphire Trixx is good too, just a case of moving a slider lol. Just keep an eye on temps!

Mate with the way Afterburner is when you first load it you can't even touch the voltage. You have to unlock that, and you shouldn't even have to.

I suggest buying one as cheap as you can (though don't mention where you got it if you didn't get it here) and then posting a thread and asking for help.

Plenty of nice people around here to give you a helping hand :)
