A car has crashed in Times Sq, killing one. Still undetermined if an accident or terror attack. Speed it was going at suggests an attack according to sky news.

A vehicle has driven on to a crowded pavement in New York City's Times Square, reportedly killing one person and injuring several others.

The driver is in custody and the area has been sealed off, according to the New York Police Department.

A Reuters witness said at least 10 people were being treated for injuries at the scene.

The vehicle reportedly jumped the kerb at 7th Avenue and 45th St near the city's popular tourist spot.

No it doesn't, it's mounted on top of a bollard, that needs some serious speed to do that. The only possibility of an accident is like the Glasgow bin lorry incident and driver falling ill at the wheel, but that is very much odds against imo.

Yup - was thinking of the bin lorry incident. Basically that or terror attack... sadly, given the location, the terror attack seems rather more likely(though certainly isn't the only possibility at this time).

why would they have to use a car in america even mentally ill people can buy guns and as much ammo as they can carry.

in the states in far more likely to be a drunk driver as it seems to be far more accepted than here

not in NYC they can't - though fair point re: some other US locations...

(obvs if a bit more dedicated then they could purchase one from a gun show in some other state etc..etc..)

To do something like that takes a massive amount of intoxication. Supports why drink or drug driving need severe sentences. Not the pathetic ones dished out over here.

I think one person mentioned it may be Islamic related. More people have posted to cast aspersions.

some people are keen to join these threads to either condemn anyone who might have assumed it was islamic related if it turns out otherwise or to vigorously defend islam/condemn Western foreign policy if it turns out to be islamic related
