Who has been? Anyone recommend a place to stay? I didn't realise how cheap flights were (well I expected them to be more) and that it wasn't as long as I thought on the plane either!

Would love to see Times Square quick break over a long weekend if I can get away with it at work.
Just not sure on cost of accomdation, don't want 5* hotel costing over £200 a night thats for sure!

Marriott Hotel By Time Square. Went there about 5/6 Years ago and was amazing. Well done very, nice looking and pretty local to Time Square 1 or 2 Blocks away from main place. But i think its gotten expensive since. and i didnt pay. I was young.

shame u want to keep it cheap, i highly recommend the w times square, you literally step out of the hotel into times square.

really nice hotel, we stayed in a king wonderful room for the week.

You'll be lucky to find a Holiday Inn Express for £200 a night let alone a 5*. I'm going at the end of September and I've found that if I stay literally 4.3 miles away from Times Square - in Union City - its £75 a night for a decent branded place.

Sure, it means you need a 20 minute/$2.50 bus ride to get to Times Square, but that sure beats paying £250 a night.

Well you knew what I mean't I don't want to be paying crazy prices for what would just be a bed.

That is a much better option though Wossi/Fox. What's $2.50 on a bus compared to massively different prices in hotels! I will take a look.

What did you use to search for places to stay?

Best bet is Jersey.. try the Westin New Jersey. It's a 10 minute PATH train straight to 33rd. Cheaper than staying in Manhattan...and takes you the same amount of time to get anywhere.

When I went I drove from North Carolina and picked the hotels by price from a travel book I would pick upon entering each state. Wanted to stay at the Edison though as it looked nice, but was too expensive for what I needed.

There's nowt wrong with Subway there, used it to get everywhere and never had a bother, best bet is to pick up a day pass which is unlimited but you can't use it more than once in a set period of time though, to stop you buying one then passing it round.

LOL, it's $330 a night!

Oh. My bad. Sure I got it for less :p

Either way, there are a few hotels on that side of the river, same deal with the train. Might be worth a shot. Quick check of the address so you know where to search: Jersey City,New Jersey

I find hotels expensive in NY.. stayed at the westin once, usually stay on the upper east but have also stayed somewhere near macys - cant remember the name... but for the love of god make sure you trip advisor it before you go..the one near macys was AWFUL.

Could also try trivago or hotwire?

Good luck! :)

The two times I've been to NYC I stayed in a rented apartment (look on holiday rentals). Is a much cheaper alternative and I stayed just round the corner from Grand Central station think we payed £600 for 7 weeks

Anything in Manhattan is going to be expensive but don't be afraid to use the subway; I've never had any problems there.

Walking in NYC is certinaly not the best option for everywhere, especially in the cold of winter or the heat of the summer.
