Hi,

I have 2 sticks of Giel DDR2-800 in a Gigabyte DS3 rev3.0.

I am currently running a an E6600 C2D @ 3.4Ghz (8x425) which means the mem is running overspec @ (2x425) 850 Mhz.

I am unsure about the timings of this module @ (400) 800mhz im sure i read somewhere it was meant to be 4-4-4-12, but the SPD on this sstem seems to read 5-5-5-18 @ (400) 800Mhz.

Is the SPD set by the mobo manufacturer in bios, or read by the bios from the memory module (and set by mem module manufacturer) ?

On top of this would it be feasible to run rhe system @ 4-4-4-12 at 850mhz fsb?

chrs

SPD settings are used by the ram manufacturer and are read by the motherboard. These are the default settings to ensure your system boots up. The 4-4-4-12 setting you have seen are its rated timings at what it can run at. 850mhz with 4-4-4-12 might work but may need an increase in vdimm. 850mhz with 5-5-5-15 is entirely feasable with stock vdimm.

Ok chrs, systems running fine at 3.4Ghz but noticed the mem is at 5-6-6-20!
Will try to adjust settings in bios, think its ctrl+F1 while booting.

Press them together on the main BIOS screen and the timings will be unlocked in the overclocking menu.

Hmm wasnt 100% stable at 3.4ghz, had to drop back to 3.2, increased vdimm and vcore to no effect, may have to slacken timings or increase multi and drop fsb ;/

Press them together on the main BIOS screen and the timings will be unlocked in the overclocking menu.

yup press together, I take it you mean the OC menu which is called M.I.T

Cob,

Changed the timings to 4-4-4-12, not changed 'DRAM voltage' as I can't find the option.
Someone in the games section said change it.

Tried running TF2, crashed as norm then a blue screen something like 'blue screen more or less iqual' didnt see it quick enough as it rebooted.

Tried Crysis, then this blue screen,

then managed to get into the desktop then hung with this screeny

DDR2 Overvoltage Control is the memory voltage. Set it to +0.3v for the Geils recommended setting of 2.1v.

Is the DRAM voltage the same as DDR2 Overvoltage Control is the memory voltage?

Getting abit confused.

And just to check you want me to change the DDR2 Overvoltage Control Voltage?

to +0.3v, that option is written in pink in the BIOS +0.5v is red. So iam ok selecting +0.3v?

I just want to check this as the last thing I dont want to do is damage and off my hardware.
