Hi there i recently put in G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit.

do i need to change the timings or does the bios/mobo do this automatically. sorry bit of a noob!

many thanks

Best to manually set the ram to 1333 as this is the speed of the IMCs. Raising this puts the PhenomII under unnecessary stress. Plus, with the ram at 1333 you'll probably find it performs better with tighter timings and overclocks further (all the way to 1600 with the advertised timings). I found it impossible to get my XMS3 to even run at 1600 (8X) but at 1333 (6.66X) and overclocking via fsb they went all the way to 1599, stable with 9-9-9-25 timings (9-9-9-27 were advertised)

i used the same method on my dominators and managed to get 8-8-8-24-2t at 1600Mhz 1.65volts that was with a slight bump to the mobo volatages and HT-link and cpu-Nb freq at 2400Mhz so it's running pretty fast over all.

I'd like to try and tighten the timings some more but not really sure what i'm doing when it comes to ram.

is 7-7-7-27- faster than 8-8-8-24
