They usually repair pretty well too

It was a sudden impact fracture, you can see in the middle of the 'clear' circle that there is a tiny chip, something it there and caused it to create that impressive fracture. It also made me nearly poo myself as it was a seriously loud bang/explosion when it happened.

Oddly I've never really had mini cracks or chips in my screens, only ever had that one happen.

I've had similar chips spider-web when getting repaired by various national windscreen firms. Apparently it depends how deep the fissure is, and if it reaches the plastic layer between the two glass panes.

Nope, no insignia in my run today I'm out in Irthlingborough.

Didnt get the name, but he's fairly recognisable with shades, cap and a pony tail!

Not sure if serious? Even the smallest of chips introduces a weakness in the windscreen that can very easily become a crack.

Anywhere else on the windscreen I think is 40mm by MOT standards, but our repair guideline is 10mm A zone, 15mm B zone (Drivers side wiper sweep), 25mm C zone (Passenger wiper sweep), 40mm D zone (Anywhere not covered by another zone already)

So glad I read this. I was under the misconception that anything directly in the field of vision was a fail. I've got a 2-3 mm sliver off the screen in our Punto which is too shallow to fix. I thought I needed a new screen

I have a chip in mine which is about 2mm deep and around 4-5mm wide. Its outside of the drivers FOV, not been filled and has seen two winters now with no issues, no hint of a crack.

Ill probably get the windscreen done when i'm looking to sell the car, don't want to mess with it for now, as its still the original screen.

Last year I got a small chip/crack in my screen - maybe 6-8mm long and on the passenger side. The son of a guy I worked with worked for Autoglass and he came out to my work to have a look at it.

His expert opinion - too small to repair and if he did attempt a repair, even if he tried putting in half a stick of material he advised it was quite possible this would actually make the crack worse. Not what I expected him to say but he knew better than me. It's never gotten any worse and I've more or less forgotten about it now.

He was talking crap, 6-8mm is definitely repairable, and there's no such thing as using half a stick of resin. They're a piercable capsule with the resin then drawn into the body of the repair head by vacuum. Admittedly it may have cracked off during the repair bit that can happen with any chip no matter what the size.
