Tips for controlling nerves?

It isn't going to be a room full of people with clipboards rating your competence as a DJ as well as a human being... most will have been drinking before they get there - just put any inaudible thumping nonsense on and as soon as their pills kick in you will have an easy night :p

Drink insane amounts of red bull! Still run one out every 30 mins though... Might be an awesome new Uni game "The RedBull Rub"

If i'm doing a big performance I'm usually not as nervous as I am when only playing in front of a small number of people and it usually doesn't hit me till i'm on the stage. I remember the last recital I did I felt absolutely fine about it because I was performing a flute concerto that i'd played for years, then I got on stage and the nerves kicked in big time for no apparent reason. My legs were shaking that much I thought they were going to give way! Coming to the end of the first movement I managed to calm down a bit and it turned out fine in the end and I started to enjoy it. There's always a real buzz afterwards when you finish and know everyones enjoyed it even if you didn't.

The best advise I can give is just take a few deep breaths and try to enjoy yourself. As the night goes on the nerves will settle down and you'll be fine.

Good luck!

Matt

Drink in the nerves. When you get up there, just let it all out at once.

That's what I do whenever my band are playing.

i find that nerves makes you more alert and spontaneous.

im a bass player and have played gigs were the more nervous i am before hand the more my playing benefits from it.

i have played runs and licks that upon listening back have sounded like some other bass player , in other words , you can impress yourself.

saying all that , once your on stage or doing what you do , it all goes away and you can control that pre nerves and turn it into something creative
