Tips for Go-Karting!! :)

get the 390cc racing ones like i did on holiday. There fast!

Where they the championship ones? The ones you need someone to push you to get going? If not, then there are much faster ones ;)

I do go-karting quite often and the championship karts are something else! 0-60 is around 4 seconds.

If its your first time, basically take it easy. Don't give it beans. The brakes on them are very good but don't slame on them for too long or you will go 360 :D
Also, don't ride the brakes (as in, don't press both the brake and the accelerator). For the beginners, brake in a straight line - especially if its in the wet! Eventually you'll see how much you have to brake before the end starts to kick out, you spin and then you are facing the wrong direction ;).

The grip is fantastic also :)

Enjoy it, am sure you will :)

Taking 15 seconds a lap more than everyone else but taking every corner sideways is, ultimately, more fun.

Went go-karting in the south of france a couple of years ago, was doing that on nearly every corner. Those karts had some power in them :D

Don't brake and turn at the same time. I got moaned at for it when I last went :(

Same:( Power sliding is fun though!

But in all seriousness, for porepr control brake whilst your going straightish. If your goin to do some dodgy move make sure no ones watching you.

Grr, gotta go go karting soon, never been before, it's got to be nothing short of awesome right?
Yep, it is - for me, there's nothing comes close for an adrenaline rush. I have a massive competitive streak that hates to be beaten at anything, but it's especially bad when I'm in a kart.

Last time I went was with work - one of our clients challenged us to an endurance race at the track near Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire. Basically you have several teams of four or five drivers each and all the teams get two hours on the track. It's not a straight race as such - the team that gets the most laps in in that two hour period being the winner. If I remember rightly, each team has to change drivers at least twice, so every driver gets at least two goes in the kart - after that, it was up to the individual team.

Most of our lot were knackered after a few laps - the track is outside and it had been raining earlier in the day, so the hairpin on the infield was fun :D - I got the red mist and decided I was going to try and salvage a bit of company pride. The final corner passes close to the spectators and my workmates later told me that I was lapping with "a possessed look" in my eyes - knowing what I'm like when the adrenalin's pumping, I don't find that hard to believe! There wasn't much finesse - I was just basically going hell for leather and had a spectacular-looking sideways impact in a tyre wall at one point.

Even though I hate losing, it's a huge, huge amount of fun and great for stirring up inter-team rivalry and banter :p - although be prepared for a stiff back and arms and a numb backside the following day ...

If anyone is near Kingston Upon Thames, there's a neat track in Esher. If any others want to go karting now and again on a weekend let me know.

Be small and light, with strong upper body. I am neither of the first two (6'7"), but when I went I was apexing every corner perfect but still getting beaten by everyone bar the girls. It was soul-crushing.

the last lan i went to 20 of us went karting indoor and i came 4th and had the fastest lap of the day.

and by far the heaviest of everyone i admit being the largest meant the slowest start of em all but then once your going with extra ballist you have the ability to go faster on corners. which does work

Not sure if they were championship. They were 'racing' ones in ibiza. Yup, they needed a push to get going but once started they were pretty fast. I loved going flat out down the straight then doing a 360 and carry on going

when youre behind some one going into a corner get right on there back bumper and as they break into the corner kkep the power on and nudge them sideways as they turn in then you can undertake them ;)

if any one lives in the midlands theres a track at telford that owns and the karts do about 40 mph feels like 150 tho :D

I tend to be quite fast and overtake most people in front when I take the corners calmly without rushing the steering. Go easy on the brakes :)
you'll corner faster if you intentionally upset the kart.
you have no diff which means both wheels turn at exactly the same rate so the only way to corner hard is to lift the inside rear.

Left foot braking but the organisers normally flip if they catch you doing it.
the brake pedal is under your left foot.

They generally complain if you brake and accelerate at the same time, knackers the brakes :)
more so the centrifugal clutche(s).

wow lucky you! I almost went out and bought one when i first went, but i had several problems,

1. where to keep it
2.where to ride it
3. how to transport it
4. Money!
1. you can store the kart vertically on your garage wall.

2. there MUST be a track somewhere near you surely?

3. assuming you can drive (or your folks can) just whack a towbar on the car ( mine cost £26 on the bay ) and buy a kart trailer as they're not expensive at all.

4. once you've kitted yourself out it's not an expensive hobby at all...unless you've gone down the 2 stroke route and not the 4 stroke one.
