Hi guys, I'm doing a CompTIA+ course from home and I cant seem to find the time to study. Well, I say I cant find the time, I have loads of time but I can't seem to gather the motivation to study. I'm stuck in my old routine of finishing work then coming straight onto the computer, and being there until it's time for bed.

Is their any1 else doing or done a course from home? And do you have any tips for me?

Much Appreciation x

Aw I think this is the Problem when you do a course from home, where if you are in college or classroom enviroment you have to do your work/Study.
Do you have weekends free? maybe take a certain day or days and make that your study time and pick times E.G 12 noon to 3pm or watever and stick to this and make this time for your Study only... Good Luck with your Studies.

Hi Andrea, yes I have most weekends free but that's for drinking time! I can't seem to break away from my routine. I have set myself times and days of study, but still I can't find the motivation to stick to them!

lol yea im sure u wud rather be drinking then studying lol
Obviously you are doing the course for a reason, just try it again... If you do some study on a Weekend afternoon then you still have time to go out and do what you want..
Where do you Live? lol Ill come and make ya do ya study lol Joking :)

Haha I do prefer the older woman tho:D But yeh ill give it a shot when i finish work again tonight, plus side i have a day off work tomorrow so hopefully can do a bit of catch up then!

Remove yourself from your home inviroment, either go to the public library or internet cafe.

This will make you study as there will be less distractions

People study for CompTIA+? :p

On a serious note I find that doing little quizzes or past paper questions is a good way to break up the reading and makes it feel more rewarding when you can show yourself you've learnt something

I'm in a similar position. I am trying to force myself to read a little a lot, so for example I will read for 1 hour every night and that's it. I find I don't take it in if I read for extended periods and spend most of the time re-reading something I didn't really pay attention to. Why don't you try switching the computer off 30 minutes/1 hour earlier, and read in bed.

I would have to agree with this. I am currently looking to start a course at home and my only way of getting any studying done would be to go to the public library :)

Good luck studying

I'm terrible to get motivated when I have study to do (suddenly rekindle my love with an old FPS game!)

I found working on the kitchen table (where there is no PC) best for me. When I study at my desk I just end up surfing, tidying up files or whatever else but actually study.

Short term pain for long term gain!

Reward yourself with 10 minutes PC/game break for every 2 hours study (or a beer - whatever works)

Yeah studying from home is a PITA. I am doing a masters in Computing and Systems practice and i hve the same problem. What I starte doing was spending my lunch break at work starting stuff and then finishing it at home. I used the logic if I left it till the next day I might forget what my train of thought was. Also I have the added bonus of a lot of the stuff I have to do is work related anyway so there is a certain ammount of study getting done 'on the job'

Ahh thanks for your advice guys, again tonight I went to the pub instead of getting down to study. Cant help myself! Even though i know im paying a lot of money for this course i still wont sit down and study for it! It has to be dead silent for me to even think about studying. Library's would have to be a no go, if somebody cough's i loose my trail of thought! I have such a crap attention span it is unbelievable!

Ask Asim he's doing extremely well at university.

Now with free HDD for a limited time only!

Just study, you bum :p. You'll regret not getting down to it if it ultimately means progression for you. Don't think of the work, think of what it might mean for you, and use that as your goal. My goal at the moment is to get out of my current firm and away from a particular colleague who makes it very difficult to work where I work without killing them. And to earn more money. That gives me a kick up the junter (which I find very hard to resist) every time I think about it now.
