I got some towels recently and after 1 wash they feel like my old towels or almost. I use lenor conentrate conditioner which i thought would keep the softness. I dont get why when i do my towels they feel dry and not fresh and soft yet other peoples feel and look brand new.

Any ideas where im going wrong or have suggestions to make them softer and not so dry and stiff kinda feeling i.e not as flexable as before.

Try washing them without any fabric conditioner. Some conditioners can act as a water repellent and make towels less absorbant and dry.

Also if you are using a tumble dryer don't leave them in too long. The heat will bake them and make them rough and rigid. If possible take them out when they are a bit damp and finish the drying on a clothes airer.

i normally put my towels in with fabric conditioner and then add a lil bit more and mine has come out nice and soft. what else do you use to clean it?

Daz tablets usually these days.

After googling (should have done before i asked here sry) it seems vineger in the conditioner drawer about a cup or cap fill not sure which seems to work but i duno because vineger isnt the nicest smelling stuff lol. Some others say bakin soda but i aint sure about that either. Has anyone tryed these if so how did it go?

Also i use clothes airers as i live in a block of 4 flats building and the back area is crap to put clothes out to dry.

I usually use 50degree washes if that helps in suggestions or not.

Then i don't understand why.... I use daz and lenor but on 40 and i get soft towls... i do sometime's use the line but it still does the job on an airer and on the radiator.

I'm amazing no one has yet called you a nancy boy and said you should be drying yourself off with sandpaper like a real man. ;)

Drying clothes outside is the best way I know of to keep them soft and they also smell fresher.

We were told when we bought our Egyptian cotton towels not to use conditioner as it clogs up the fibres and makes them go hard.. mind you, after a year they are now feeling a little rough but I don't want to reinvest £100 in new towels :(

Don't wash towels with fabric conditioner, stops them being as absorbent. Can't suggest anything to make them softer, its just the way towels get after they are washed a few times.

Are you in a hard water area?

Here in London my towels tend to some out a bit rough though a couple of mins in the tumble dryer when they're dry tends to soften them up.

Up in soft water filled Yorkshire my aunty has nice soft fluffy towels using the same washing powder and line drying.

Soft water i believe.

At the mo i got some towels and shoved em in the washer with a small cup of vineger in the conditioner draw no daz in as they were clean anyhow and at 50d wash. Just a little experiment to see if it softens em up at all for now. Will post back results tomorrow ish.

To get towels soft I make sure I don't overload the washing machine, add normal amounts of detergent (non bio) and a little extra fabric conditioner and then put them on a hot wash (usually 60C). Finally I dry them in a tumble drier.

Soft and fluffy all the time :)

As much as possible, yeah. Never stick things on radiators though. We do have a tumble dryer but the only time it's been used in my lifetime is two or three times when I've needed a shirt to wear and there's been no other option.

There's normally good wind in winter :)
