Tips to softed towels?

Use a combined washing powder/fabric conditioner like Bold. It's a completely different sort of softener to the liquids and doesn't stop them from being absorbent, while still softening them.

For me air drying = cardboard, tumble dry = light and fluffy.

Can't justify tumble drying though so cardboard towels all the way baby

haven't read the other replies but you need to tumble dry them with some fabric softener sheets they come out really fluffy then.

Sadly it's the only way.
