Titanic submersible confirmed destroyed with loss of all five souls onboard.

Based on the depth the sub imploded at the effective reduction in pressure differential of 54 atm would have prevented the implosion, also the hull may not have accrued damage over time to the extent it did had it been exposed to lower pressure differentials. It probably would have failed at some point, but maybe much later on in it's life.

I'm not sure that the passengers would reach saturation during the time spent at that pressure so not sure it would be quite that long for decompression, but a pressurised habitat on the surface such as that used by saturation divers could be used for a slow decompression. But that would cost money and I suppose kind of defeats the whole point of the sub being done on a shoestring budget with inadequate testing, you'd probably have another Byford Dolphin style incident if Oceangate tried doing it.
The CEO guy doesn't strike me as someone who would've wanted to spend money on all that supporting infrastructure, decompression chambers etc for that..

Out of curiosity I looked up the Byford Dolphin incident. 3 people had their blood boiled instantaneously, 2 were clobbered by a diving bell, killing 1 and seriously injuring the other, while the last poor soul suffered “gross dismemberment” by being forced through a partially closed hatch by 9 atmospheres of pressure. Essentially he got what I can only describe as ‘Playdo Fun Factoried’ to death. I can only proclaim ‘****ing Oof’.

He went through door to thirty feet beyond, organs first.

Aberdeen university student joins her mother on Virgin Galactic trip

Anastatia Mayers on company’s first space tourism flight
..
Mayers will join her mother Keisha Schahaff, 46, and the former British Olympian Jon Goodwin, 80, on the 90-minute trip on August 10 on board VSS Unity.

The mother and daughter pair, from Antigua, will be the first such duo to make a trip to space after winning a place in a prize draw.

..
The trip will be Virgin’s first to take paying space tourists and will raise funds for Space for Humanity, a non-profit group that seeks to send ordinary people into space to give them a “grander perspective” on the challenges facing Earth.

would you go, or put the tickets on viagogo ?

Following a February 2019 spaceflight, VSS Unity began to undergo modifications in preparation for commercial service; this includes an upgrading the flight deck and installing a passenger cabin.[94] It was later revealed in 2021 that VSS Unity had actually suffered a large crack in its structure during its 2019 spaceflight, requiring repair work to the vehicle.[95] Following its return to service VSS Unity made a test flight that included Richard Branson as a passenger on July 11, 2021. During this flight, the vehicle deviated from its planned flight course triggering a Federal Aviation Administration investigation into the issue. While in ascent the vehicle triggered a red warning light which indicated it had deviated from its safe flight path.[96] On 2 September 2021, it was publicly announced that further SpaceShipTwo flight tests would be grounded by FAA mandate until the investigation was completed.[97] The FAA cleared SpaceShipTwo flights to resume later in September, after deciding to expand the restricted aerospace around the vehicle's flight range.[98]

255. FE 2 and FE 7 (both engineers), FE 3 (a technician), and FE 1 (an inspector) allagreed that Eve developed cracks after every flight. FE 7 and FE 2 add that Unity also developedcracks after every flight. Indeed, FE 2 calls Unity a “flying band-aid.”256. According to FE 3, the cracks were structural. About 90% of the cracks were inplaces where components had been bonded together with resin. For the most part, the cracks werenot remediated. As a result, FE 3 reports, Eve’s wings were full of cracks.257. According to Mr. Meholic, winged vehicles may develop cracks that are eitherparallel to the long side of the wing (“spanwise”) or perpendicular to it (“chordwise”). Differentforces cause the spanwise and chordwise cracks, and they have different consequences. Spanwisecracks, in particular, can be caused by or induce an unpredictable, unstable feedback loop in thewings’ natural oscillations called flutter. As flutter oscillations get stronger and stronger, the wingcould fail and fall off. Chordwise cracks, while less dangerous, could tend to show that forces thatbent the wings were overstressing its skin. Without detailed, skillful examination, Virgin Galacticwill not know the cause of the crack nor how much danger it poses.258. According to FE 7 and FE 2, many of the cracks were especially dangerous becausethey were spanwise.

Yeah even beardy Branson was completely wetting himself when he went on it and I am sure he has all the insight into it. Also one of the previous ones crashed before as well.

no one mentioned galactic return in spaceflight thread so i'll continue, wing cracks not problematic this time
subsequently watched galactic launch - spooky the ambiance of the interior V
don't know if Branson makes any net zero claims about these launches - can you just create CO2 & high atmosphere pollution with no tax (like ulez)

I agree, if Branson isn't explicit about there being zero nets to catch you if anything goes wrong, then he really should have to be upfront about it in the contract.

Twitters never going to die with these kind of click-bait appetites - not enough time to read nonsense it feeds diners.

is there anything new on the crash analysis ?
seems unlikely the relations would keep quiet on any intermediate findings like black box / base station communications, if they are going to initiate any legal action against company,
like Canada is contemplating under their jurisdiction.
