TK Maxx prices and item fakes?

There was a documentary on TX Max a while back and I think the consensus is that you should take designer labels at high street prices claim with a large pinch of salt.

m&mdirect is a similar mystery to me

They sell what looks to be good quality clothes, at cheap prices. They have a peter werth coat for £59.99, where the same coat in house of fraser is £189.99

I took the plunge and ordered one. It's a nice coat, but the label and the overall feel of the material was nothing like the one in the shop.

Similar trend with a pair of french connection jeans I bought.

Both Tk Maxx and the clothing manufacturers are at it, the manufacturers make lesser quality items and let Tk Maxx sell them so they look like the real deal etc but cheaper.

I know this because I spotted a Nigel Hall long sleeve polo top in TK Maxx identical to one I had paid £80 for.........BUT it wasnt 100% Merino.........it was cheaper fabric BUT not on Nigel Hall site or shops..............soooooo my friend works in Trading Standards so I asked him to see if it was fake.........long story short no not fake ,he mailed Nigel Hall etc and they confirmed it was legit and the aforementioned MO.

Imo underhand, caveat emptor as they say.

wasn't there a doc ages ago about Tk Maxx, they owned like a load of the "brand" names, sold them for "cheaper then rrp" and made a boat load of cash.

TK Maxx stuff is cheap because it's old/last season or they're batches that failed somewhat in the QC department right?

Surely that's only devalues a brand over time

If I bought a pair of armani jeans (not that I would), and they were no different than a £5 pair of george from asdas, I would assume all armani jeans were of similar quality

They also own several of the brand labels so the RRP is completely made up by themselves.

There are bargains to be had but you need to remain savvy.

Only if someone goes about making a huge fracas (!) about it and compares two side by side and goes around showing average people.

On the other hand, the average person is much happier knowing they're getting a brand name item without having to pay close to rrp.

TBH you can selectively pick good quality items and avoid the obviously poorer quality ones. Not everything they sell is the "alternative" version either.

They look identical except for the small logo which on mine is black with a grey logo in the middle instead of white

Do TK Maxx sell fake goods and how can they put RRP on items which are incorrect?

They don't sell fakes, they do however sometimes sell previous seasons... More commonly(AFAIK) some manufacturers will make inferior lines specifically for TK Maxx.

I think the idea is that the people who are happy to buy cheaply made, low quality clothes with designer brand names printed on them in TK Maxx will fall into a different subset to that brand's target customers.

Maybe it is a bit risky as a wide range of people do shop at TK Maxx but people who care about the quality of their clothes will probably not buy the low quality stuff and people who want a brand name item at a knock down price are happy too.

Find it amusing how many people are adamant they don't sell fakes.
They have frequently been caught out selling fakes, although I'm sure they never intentionally would. It's down to their buying process, and the legitimacy of the markets those buyers trade in.

It's most likely just a slightly different line of stock, a failed design that they then reworked, or that they're actively pushing as mentioned above.

Totally agree, def made me avoid Nigel Hall stuff.

not heard of that, do you have a source? I know they sell cheaply made stuff that designers deliberately manufacture from them, given that these designer places are happy to work with them I would have assumed they wouldn't need to go through any underhand buying process to obtain their merchandise.
