Just trying to decide whether or not to go with Tmobile when I order my Note 2? Search results give a poor impression of them, but they're all from months ago. How are they now? Are speeds still capped to 3.5Mbits down, 512Kbps up?

On MPD, Tmobile have the best contract (Full Monty £36, free handset), and the only other option is vodafone which I've had bad experience with. Should I just go for it?

Get hold of a pay as you do SIM on T-Mobile/Orange stick a fiver on it or something and then see how you go with the signal and data in the places you regularly visit. I believe there's no data caps now so the 3G is it actually pretty damn quick when you're in good coverage.

I'm new to T-Mobile and so far I am not that impressed. Reception wise they are fine. It is the internet speed that concerns me, it is sometimes very high at 8-9 mbps and at other times excruciatingly slow at 0.01 mbps.

Like all the mobile companies it all depends on time location etc. Speeds at my home can vary from 1.5 - 7.5 Mb pretty much randomly.

It does very much depend on time of day and location, but previous to that I was on o2 and giffgaff. Although it was nowhere near as fast, downloads were around 1-3 mbps it was a lot more consistent. I'd rather have a solid 2 mbps all the time, but the internet is almost unusable at certain times on T-Mobile, and this is in Manchester!

I went from o2/giffgaff to three and the data speeds and reliability seems much improved, from my experience so far I would definitely recommend.

Whats 3's fair use policy like? The thing that keeps me tempted with TMobile is the literal unlimited data, not "actually 1GB, then we slow you down" like others.

I wish I'd have paid a bit extra and gone for all you can eat data on 3. I'm stuck on a 2 year contract with t-mobile and I've already contacted them once complaining of internet speeds, but realistically, what can I do? It works enough for things like whatsapps to receive msgs but it's so bad, that at times I can't even load up the play store. It just sits there loading for ages until I give up. Is there anything I can do?

T-Mobile is great in my area. But your best off just getting a PAYG sim and trying it in places you go to.

All my handsets are locked to O2 or Orange so I can't really. I'm texting a few local mates to see how they get on with it.

Just done a couple of speed tests on my O2 iPhone 4. With 3/5 signal I got 5.2Mbps down and 1.5Mbit up. So like people have said, do I go from consistently good, to ranging from poor to very good?

Did a speedtest this morning and another one just now on T-Mobile.

Test 1, 0940 this morning

4.72Mb Down
0.85Mb Up

Test 2, 1650 hours today

4.90Mb Down
1.38Mb Up

Both had 2/5 signal strength

Giffgaff uses O2s network, so any O2 locked phone should work?

Some of my speedtest results on T-Mob:

28/10/12 - 2:54pm

5.79 download
2.31 upload
131 ms ping

29/10/12 - 2:29pm

0.01 download
0.50 upload
1250 ms ping

31/10/12 - 3:30pm

0.09 download
0.54 upload
267ms ping

31/10/12 - 4:47pm

1.77 download
2.08 upload
180 ms ping

^ Just to give you an idea of what I mean. I have hit as high as 9.98 mbps download on 3G which is brilliant, but too often I am getting less then 0.1 mbps which is almost unusable. Not quite sure what I can do tbh since I'm in the first month of a 2 YEAR contract with them.

Have you checked that you are def on T-Mobile and not "T-Mobile Orange" when the slow results are there.

Reason I ask is I have the same problem when my phone jumps onto T-Mobile Orange. As soon as I select T-Mobile, the speeds are better.

How do I check that? My network simply shows as EE.

Hmmmm..... Not sure if you can now. Try a manual network selection and see if you still have "T-Mobile" and "T-Mobile Orange" as options. If it has "EE" instead of these 2 then it isn't possible unless you leave that area.

My area still shows T-Mobile or T-Mobile Orange....

Whenever I was on T-Mobile Orange the speeds were dialup like and worse :(.... If I did a manual selection for T-Mobile then the speeds shot back up to normal. They offered to switch off the network sharing so I couldnt access T-Mobile Orange but that would stop me using them for voice calls as well.... They never did sort it :(

It only ever happened going to work as I went out of T-Mobile coverage but Orange covered it then it would just remain on the Orange cell site till I forced it off.

I left t-mobile a month ago. Was with them for about 3 years. They where solid. Never let me down. Joined Three a month ago for all you can eat data

Just tried it again and switched the networks:

T-Mobile Orange:

1.11Mb Down
0.58Mb Up

T-Mobile:

7.31Mb Down
1.62Mb Up

As you can see, there is an issue with the network sharing for some reason. These tests were done minutes apart and its always been the same for me - T-Mobile Orange = crap speeds, T-Mobile = good. I am a T-Mobile customer.

Edit: As a test -

On my Wireless at home:

5.19Mb Down
0.91Mb Up

My mobile network is about 150% of the speed of my home ADSL :o
