So should I go with a 8800GTS 640Mb or wait to see what the ATI R600 cards are going to be like?

Cheers

i was waiting just like you but got fed up with r600 delays and thought sod it and got a 8800gtx and im so glad i did but its upto you.

There is no guarentee that the r600 will be much faster (if any) than the 8800. By the time the r600 is released the new revision of 8800 (8900/8950) will be out or just about to be released so you may play the waiting game again and again to get the best kit.

theres no point in buying a dx10 card when dx10 isnt out yet.

Pointless comment really - The performance of the new DX10 cards is still far better than any of the DX9 versions.

From what Nikumba has said already, it would appear that he is not upgrading specifically for DX10, but is looking at the best option currently available. If he really needs to upgrade/replace his current card, are you saying he should get a DX9 card instead?

Logically, the R600 would only be worth waiting for if it turned out to be better than the 8800. Since no one yet knows whether that is true, I don't think anyone can really answer your question :p

But as far as I know, there have been no clear and reliable reports of R600 being vastly superior to the 8800s.

I think if you want to wait, you should wait. If you don't want to wait, then the nV cards are being praised almost universally by their owners and by reviewers alike.

Do you want to wait?

Yes there is, as ive said before no one is buying the G80's for Dx10, they are buying them for Dx9, their Dx9 performance is incredible, they are the fastest cards you can get for Dx9 by a country mile, they just can't be touched, when Dx10 is here the ppl with G80's will be getting Dx10 cards, G80's are not them, who in their right mind would buy the slowest ever Dx10 card before they can even use Dx10, the G80's are all about Dx9. :)

Listen to this guy.

you could look at it like this, the 8800GTX is a really powerfull dx9 card, with the capability for dx10.

just like when the AMD64's were released for the future, the cuture comes and the conroe is now the better choice.

Expect a battle between ATi and nVidia in the future with DX10. We could see a another verson of the FX series, but no1 can tell just yet.

i'm personally waiting on the x2900xtx, then i'm gona make up my mind between G80 or R600.
