On a more serious note, just put a note on saying "Smile for the cameras", they'll get spooked and not try it again probably.

Get one of those small keychain cams, and put it on the dash facing towards the door. Then wait and see, I don't know how long they record for but it could work?

Connecting it to mains AC seems the obvious answer. It won't kill them, but it will make them very reluctant to take the pipes out.

You can't do anything that points to you obviously setting a trap with deliberate attempt to harm as you will lose in court if you hurt the thief ( poor boy from broken home etc.) so whatever you use -such as my idea for a mousetrap - you simply claim that it's not the first time someones put something in your tube trying to break your fingers.
To this end anything 'rigged up' to the tubes will see you appear in court.

Just make sure your dad remembers in the morning before he puts his fingers in

fill it with some pretty noxious gas, so when they open it, they get a faceful, and either are rather ill, or pass out, or just makes them stink, either way, after it's been open for a little while, all traces will have dissapated, and no proof to say you filled it.
