To speedstep or not to speedstep ?

So I noticed when I have speedstep on I get random little freezes because the clock speed has dropped for a second down quite low.

Now when I have have speedstep disabled this never happens and temps are literally 1-2'c higher at full clocks etc...

Is it safe to have it disabled or should I re-enable it ?

I know I should know this by now but I've never really used SS.
 
I had it on briefly last weekend after forgetting to disable it after a CMOS reset, Wondered why bf4 ran poorly - core multipliers were stuck at 8x not the 46x they should move to. A reboot did work but ultimately I just disabled it along with the c states.
 
Maybe its just a z87 thing that's causing me problems. I have to be honest, its by far the worst chipset I've used since some of the 775 nforce days.

I must be one of the lucky few as I've never had any problems with any chipset since 775.

The clock stuttering issue actually went away after I updated to the latest bios literally minutes after I created this thread :D
 
I have all power states enabled on my board and have had no stuttering problems. I have also done the unpark all cores thingy too so that may help.

Same here. Been running my PC for over 2 years with speedstep and also never had a problem.

My advice to people who do have issues is to carefully check your BIOS settings. There's quite a few settings that can effect speedstep and you need to ensure they are all set correctly for it to work perfectly.

See sig playing BF4 with speed step no problems at all in a 64 player server.

As for us girls regarding headaches maybe it was time of the month.:D
 
I use speedstep with no problems. Definitely like the idea of my processor clocking down low and using little power when idle/browsing. I have disabled C States for my 5ghz gaming profile though as otherwise i get idle bsod's caused by the too low voltage of off set. I can get around this by running HIGH LLC instead of VERY HIGH, but then i need to run more voltage to counter vdroop. This extra voltage does solve the idle BSOD though. Its swings and pg tips basically.
 
Speedstep and c states etc enabled here but fixed voltage on my cpu so it doesn't drop at idle. No issues to report.
