Hi ladies and gents i currently have the rig in my sig and i'm trying to decide if I should upgrade or not. As well as those specs it's got a ac 7 cooler and I run xp and have a 24inch tft.

I'm thinking of a few ideas sell this system and build a whole new one.

Upgrade the gfx's card and cpu.

upgrade the cpu and motherboard.

get 64bit vista and 4gb of ram then wc it and oc the nuts off the e6600.

I have about £500 to play with without having to sell the current rig but the less spent the better I guess. so which will get me the most bang per buck oh and the system is almost completely used for gaming.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

if it a question of what to up-grade to, what’s best to buy with £500
do you want to change over to i7 socket because I would just buy faster ram OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel and clock your E6600 a bit more
you have a good motherboard and a good CPU
then get a faster graphic card as you have a crossfire MB I would get an ATI card so you have the option of being able to buy a matching GC and run them in crossfire.
if thats no help then give some idea of what you want if its game play then spend your money on better ram and a better graphic card than your pc will last a lot longer and you will have some change from the £500.

cheers

save your money and get
this and this

as for your 8800gtx
you will see no massive improvement in graphics performance unless you go for a 4870/GTX280 or better
and even then you would need a 24" monitor to get the most out of it

Hi thanks for the replies basicly the main question when I think about it is do I need to upgrade yet or what can I upgrade to keep me going untill I7 matures and the prices drop.

Basicly I mostly play games and I have a 24" dell ultra from what I have read the only card which would give me a noticeable difference over the 8800gtx is a 280 or the ati x2.

I am leaning towards getting vista, 4gb of ram and setting up wc to push the oc further then maybe getting a 280 in the new year sometime or whatever they release next if I wait that long .

i would wait till the next batch of cards to see a big leap and make it worth the money

the ram and 64bit upgrade will do you a massive favour

here is the ram you need http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-114-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=817&name=OCZ%204GB%20(2x2GB)%20PC2-8500C5%201066MHz%20Dual%20Channel%20Platinum%20Series%20DDR2%20(OCZ2P10664GK)
and your vista 64 if its just games then Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit will do just fine if you want the media centre than you will have to get the Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-Bit http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-041-MS&groupid=33&catid=20&subcat=&name=Microsoft%20Windows%20Vista%20Ultimate%20SP1%2064-Bit%20-%20OEM%20(66R-02034)
faster ram a better graphic card and vista 64.
I am using vista business 64 and its got all I need, I do video editing but I use adobe
I need to get a better GC my self or spend £50 get 1 more 3850 and see what there like running crossfire, I did have and SLI system before and wasted a lot of money so I'm not sure what to do.

cheers
