its out this Friday and i'm not sure if i want to get this game

i really enjoyed toca2 but after playing the Toca3 demo I've come to the conclusion that its 99% the same as toca2 (gameplay wise) and while the extra tracks and cars are nice i cant really justify spending 17.99 on a game that's a carbon copy of a game i bought 2 years ago

what do you guys think

I was intending to get this (for the Xbox) until I played the PC demos and was totally underwhelmed - as said, it's like 99.5% the same as Toca 2. It's the Colin McRae series all over again - CMR 04 and 2005 are almost exactly the same game

I agree played it over weekend and it's just same as toca 2 graphics not very good either i'll stick with gt legends for a bit longer.

Its not out till friday.

Ive got it pre ordered should be here thursday with a bit of luck if anyone wants a multiplayer bash, im presuming it does have multiplayer.

I agree that it seems too much like the second one - realise that cars and racing have not changed a lot in time but surely something 'extra' could have been added.

One thing I dislike about the Toca games is they don't show a whole map of the circuit on screen at once (in the left corner), just the tiny bit you are approaching in the next five seconds.

Also did anyone else think that Toca 2 was too hard at times, some of the cars were very easy to spin and the AI could be hard to beat even on the 'easiest' difficulty.

I found it one of most frustrating games of all time; although i'm not a big racing game fan but the second in series was very good - just I was'nt.

I was so hopeless that I gave up after about half an hour. All the cars felt like they had RWD and no grip whatsoever so I'd spin out all the time. I also found that the car's performance was too easily affected by damage so even if I was competitive over the first lap or two, eventually my car would be so crippled that I'd get overtaken on straights.

Having played the early TOCA games in the late 90s (pre Race Driver series) which were fairly arcadey, I wasn't expecting such a hardcore sim.

I hate driving games on the pc because I hate using mouse and keyboard for driving, and I can't be bothered with a big ugly steering wheel. I have a ps2 controller I use for GTA but its just not the same as driving on a console.

I think Toca 3 could be a great game if they really toned down the difficulty a lot - but going by the two demos they haven't done that at all. Toca 2 was just too unforgiving for my liking and even when I won races I didn't feel that I'd actually enjoyed myself, it was too white knuckle, you were afraid to make one tiny mistake as if you did, you would lose the race and have to retry it.

lmao thats not the way I played the demos, it seemed that on every turn the AI slowed to much and you could just rip right past them.

Multiplayer demo out :

Codemasters has released the promised multiplayer demo for ToCA Race Driver 3, renewing the chance to take their imminent multi-disciplined modern racing simulation for a spin. This demo contains three tracks that can be played online using a GameSpy account, but note that if you still have the previous single-player demo installed, this new demo is misconfigured to force its uninstallation.

one thing that annoyed me about toca 2 was when you were on full lock and full throttle the car went absolutely nowhere!!! you would get no acceleration out of corners until the wheels are straight. Especially noticeable in the mustangs.

Finaly got around to playing the multiplayer demo, Ive gotta say that decided it for me.

The game menus are horrible, they look like they were plucked right from the console, with all the commands listed on the bottom, its like they just replaced the button icons and then slapped it onto the PC.

The racing isnt really that hard, most of the cars felt the same to me so I dont think I will be getting this.

To bad, its quite fun for a while.
