OK, so I got my new rig over a week ago now and have been trying all those games out that my old system wouldent even run.

Played Gears of war, meh, mediorce at best.
C&C 3 Kains Wrath, yeah not bad but nothing special.
Supreme Commander, again not bad but still more of the same.

Then I came accross Bioshock, OMG why didnt I upgrade sooner, this game is brilliant, the Graphics are something special, Gameplay is spot on and the Story is one of the best in years.

I'd class it as Alice in Wonderland meets Half Life (And thats the dark and sinister Alice).

Upgrading from an AMD Athlon 3200+ and a Radion 9600 to a Phenom 9950BE and a Radion 4850 is a huge jump and well worth every penny.

Fantastic atmosphere, although the fact that there was no penalty for dying whatsoever kind of spoiled it for me - you just popped out of the vita chamber with everything intact - getting killed basically meant teleporting to the nearest vita chamber.

LOl, didnt like it much either but I was approaching it with a FPS mentality. Its not a FPS per se more of a deus ex / system shock type game as pointed out above. I'll give it another go I think. Weapons sucked a bit as I recall.

Lovely game, gorgeous art design, great storyline. Only problem with Bioshock is it has zero replay value.

If they had made it a bit more 'rpg' like Mass Effect it'd have been a superb game, it was just begging for sidequests and dialogue trees.

Jack of all trades, master of none. The dev's started off saying it was rpg-like and was open gameplay - not all one route corridors etc, then that quickly disintergrated as more info came out about the game during development and when people actually got to play it.

Still all forgiven by some because of it's atmosphere. Unfortunately I still fall for the hype about games and usually always get let down.

Atmosphere was awesome, gameplay was great but it certainly had it's flaws.

But then again I enjoyed Gears of War so my opinion probably doesn't count for much :D

for some reason i did not finish bioshock oh yea i remember why .

when u use sensitivity 1 it is ok in game but still a bit fast and u cant set any lover and when u do a puzzle/hacking even sensitivity in game is fast but in hacking device is just messed up and slow

pathetically easy after an hour which led to absolutely no tension because you were all but invincible, let alone the fact that if you did die it didn't matter in any way at all. Boring and linear, story wasn't actually good, ending boring, end boss truly and utterly the most pathetic end game boss in the existance of all gaming. the same bad guys start to finish which were boring, stupid and bland. Big brothers that after killing the first two you could kill ludicrously easily with any weapon because your character becomes exponentially stronger from start to, 30 minutes into the game while the enemies don't get stronger at all. Quite a large variation in possible fighting styles and what weapons you want to use, but there was no NEED to use anything at all but a freezing wrench, infact you could only use the wrench with strength and freezing and kill everything easily. They made good weapons and some good plasmids but forgot about any incentive for using them. More, damn, I forget what its called, the stuff you get out of the kids or as presents to buy upgrades with. Maybe using plasmids could give you some of that, more inventive kills gave you some and you couldn't buy EVERYTHING easily without doing so. UNfortunately you could buy everything easily, being good or bad in the game made zero difference, killing with a wrench and not switching weapons was easier and quicker than seeing a patch of water and thinking electrocuting a guy walking over it would be cool and switching to the right plasmid.

The utter lack of tension from the game being so pathetically easy played into the, "get through as quickly as possible because you're bored" vibe to the game rather than spending time being creative with destruction or wasting time switching weapons.

There were billions of standard things they could do to shake gameplay up, limited ammo, scaled damage from enemies, enemies with more weapon variation as you progress through the game, more enemies. Limited choice of plasmids, need to obtain money/the forgotten name other stuff via alternative methods. They just skipped all the basics that force choices, difficulty and creativity in games, and went the dull easy, easier, so easy it was boring mode. It was just a very poor game, it could have been great. Bad/good choices needed to, DO SOMETHING to the game, and all the options for varying gameplay HAD to be included, with that in the game it might have been fantastic, without it, it was dull as anythign I've played in the last decade.

Simple gameplay, simple puzzels, everything completely done before.

Its actually not great graphics at all, very low res textures all over the place but that I don't care about, its about design and it was well made though samey. I really don't mind if a game isn't graphically fantastic as long as the design is good, even if a game has fantastic graphics the design must be good. But call it what it is, good design, not great graphics. WIthout the opening sequence starting above water level with the flames and sinking plane no one would say it was graphically fantastic, it was the only fancy , multiple effects part of the game really. Its underwater and so mostly it was just blue outside, there weren't actually many water effects throughout the game and few water + reflection parts for the same reason. If you cut out the first 12 seconds of the game then graphically its nothing special, calling a game fantastic graphically, based on the opening 12 seconds looking pretty is fairly short sighted.

Bioshock is no-where near "rubbish". Ok, go to your local game retailer and look in the bargain bin or various shelves where you see lesser-known, unrated games you most likely have never heard of. Those are "often" rubbish and not worth your time. Bioshock has fantastic graphics and a good story when compared to, say, any of the Doom series. So at least it has an actual story that is worth following and genuinely intriguing. The hate for BioShock, as with other games, is often typical “Lemmings Syndrome” where suddenly it’s cool to dismiss games that are actually regarded quite highly by the majority of gamers, for a variety of reasons I wont pretend to understand.

It is, of course, only my opinion in a sea of millions at the end of the day. But to me, BioShock was and is an excellent game. At the very least, it deserves to be viewed as a good game, when compared to the crappy budget titles available.

After finishing Half life 2 + the episodes and Far Cry I must admit I was a little dissapointed with Bioshock,it just did'nt make me want to play on for hours like Half life 2 or Far Cry.
Waiting for Far Cry 2 now,,,hope that does'nt let me down!!!!!

I love it when people validate their points with sound reasoning and evidence.

I THINK Bioshock is rubbish. See I just did!

I am pleased you liked it. I'm just saying I found it rubbish. I don't care if know one agrees with me or not. I don't need to produce "evidence" anyway how can I, im voicing my opinion!
