**Today Only 14/11/2011** Intel Core i7-3960X 3.30GHz (SB-E) & Asus GeForce GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 10

is the graphics card any good ?

no ;)

if you're after bf3/batman arkham city maybe worth getting the £194 version, actually even if you don't want the games you can sell the for ~£50 which leave you with the card for £140 and it's oced higher than this version which is £168 today.

Cool

If both are available or you're not impatient you would have to be off your rocker to get the x over the k, 3% performance difference at stock, in this review the x needed more voltage to reach the same frequency as the k.

I used to do it all the time, but I thought I'd broken the habit after I got the QX6700 I have at the moment. Unfortunately it's now quite long in the tooth, with no USB 3.0/SATA 6 Gbit/s, only four threads and limited to 16GB RAM. I'd like to think that the i7-3960x stands a chance at lasting nearly 5 years, too. Only time will tell if that is the case, but in the mean time... roll on tomorrow's delivery :D

I had the expensive QX6700 for 4 years and I though it was a good CPU (only 6GB/s with 4 RAM modules) .. until I bought the relatively cheap 2600K which hugely improves gaming and PS5 use, etc. I still don't have any USB 3 devices but I sure make full use of the SATA 6GBps ports.

I currently get a memory bandwidth of 22GB/s with the 2600K (4.6GHz) and checking a review of the 3960X it achieves 37GB/s at 3.3GHz with four RAM modules, not bad but I'd expect that paying £840. I wonder what the bandwidth of the 3960X would be with all eight DIMMs used?

Just tried calling to check you still have the 3960X in stock and order one (and an OEM copy of Win 64 Ultimate if a deal could be struck) but was kept on hold for 10 minutes before, frustrated, I had to give up. Complete opposite to the quick, efficient service I received from "another company" just 20mins earlier. About to go back to "another company" to place my order (they're expecting stock today/tomorrow at the latest, hence trying OC's) unless anyone's now about on the phones or email?

EDIT: At the risk of a flaming: finally got through and told there were "loads in" but that he'd have to check about the offer. A long wait later and apparently the offer IS on for today [Yay!] but they won't sell me one at the reduced price as, and I quote "the offer is only on for today". Call me old fashioned but I still go by the generally acknowledged definition of "today" and business hours. Now ordering from "another company" where they were only too pleased to help and the 'phone operator was more helpful.

[Edited my edit..."Yo Dawg, I heard you like Edits..." Memebase? No? Nevermind ;)]

The offer was indeed only on for today but at a limited quantity, as is the case with all Today Only offers. There was only 5 allocated at the £799.98inc vat price and they must have all gone by the time you got through to speaking to someone.

Sometimes the quantity of each item available is mentioned here in the opening post of the thread but if it isn't then all you have to do is load up the store page, it's right there just underneath "Hardware Bundles".

Fair enough, but with no mention of limited allocation on the opening post I hope you can see it might be misleading. When any new component that looks like it might sell out in a hurry I prefer to nip in via phoning and speak to someone direct which means without full disclosure in the OP I'd genuinely miss the Hardware Bundle option. Ah well, rage...subsiding ;) Now ordered so just got to read through the growing number of X79 Mobo reviews! :p

@ thisburningage

As has been mentioned the Today Only deal lasts until 9am the following morning or until the allocated stock has sold out, whichever comes first.

You might want to give your post a further edit as discussion of OcUK's competitors is not allowed.

Your post might also be sailing a bit close to the wind considering this forum rule:

No anti-OcUK posts
OcUK will never allow these forums to be used by those who would seek to tarnish our name, no matter how justified they feel their circumstances are. Posts of an offending nature slagging off OcUK, demoralising or demeaning the company name, complaints about bad service, etc. will not be tolerated.

More than happy to edit it, but my point about not mentioning the limited availability in the OP still stands :) Editing now.

well if you either clicked on the order now to be taken to the product page or even read some of the posts AFTER the op you'd seen the mention of it be limited.
