TN. Enough said.
TN. Enough said.
I'm in the same boat. I have a 27" 1440p IPS screen which I've been gaming at 60hz on and while I cannot complain, I would love to give this tech a go...however I can't bring myself to buy it...![]()
someone who doesnt understand recent monitor developments and is still under the impression that TN is vastly inferior.
enough said.
1440 is a nice res, but once you factor in 144Hz and gsync. Its a whole new ball game. I toyed with the idea of getting a gsync monitor for ages. Took me a while but I'm glad I did. Games feel so much smoother, its a type of experience that is hard to describe until you've used it for yourself. Also, as the panel in this is a TN similair to the ROG swift, image is actually pretty nice. I used a VA panel benq fir over 8 years, great image but always felt odd for gaming. Id find it very hard to go back to 60Hz now.
You still shipping for delivery tomorrow?
It's in my basket...few more clicks...![]()

Do it now. You'll be so happy when g-sync is in your life![]()
rjk, are TN monitors still limited in terms of viewing angles?
Im conscience that due to the big size of the monitor the edges may appear to be darker, because they are at a larger viewing angle from your eyes compared to the centre of the monitor?
Or is this a myth best left in the mid 2000s?
Also, what kind of GFX card am I going to need for this in order to achieve the 144Hz refresh? Does it come back to the old adage about having enough grunt to get up to 144fps? Or again, is this a myth?
(Sorry if Im asking obvious questions here but Im not totally clued up on the latest on the monitor front. but this monitor looks sexy as hell and this youtube video (PCARS later on) just made me do a wee wee.
I already did
Your IPS is still going strong though, superb unit![]()
Actually can't believe I missed this yesterday! £449.99 is/was a steal for what it offers! Now I'll have to sit around again awaiting a new deal on this / the ROG / BenQ models!
It is This Week ONLY time tomorrow, I will get it back on offer for more or less same price.![]()

Well first impressions are a bit underwhelming and I'd go as far as to say OCUK sent me a monitor that someone else has already returned once...
*Box was a bit bashed the screen protector had been masking taped back togther and the bezel protector looks liek its been stuck back on badly when i un-boxed it*
So I'm a bit sad if that's true. Will give it a proper go the weekend. Before sending it back as at this stage I think the ROG swift is much better and the QA on that screen was shocking.
I was expecting more to be honest especially when rjk said TN as come a long way.
Ill give it a chance the weekend see if it wins me over.

a little, but then I dont stand at a 170' angle to my monitor looking for imperfections in viewing angles when I am playing games.
if you are doing anything other than sitting square on to a gaming monitor to play games, then you arent playing games properly.
not really sure what that means, your peripheral vision will do that sort of thing anyway depending on how close you sit to a degree. the backlight on these panels is usually very even, but then you should really be playing with a light on in the room too.
technology on TN panels has advanced enormously since then. my train of monitors was a U3008, U3011, Rog Swift TN. I was somewhat of an IPS snob before as I prefer the depth and accuracy that IPS offered over TN rivals, but moving to a Swift was the best move I have done since SSD. [this dell uses the same panel as the swift]
Depends on your demands as a gamer, if you want absolute best performance then a 980TI. if you want to just be up and running, and only play stuff like CSGO then a 780 might be the way to go.
I use a 980 and it runs every game I have played recently very well. Battlefront, Fallout4, R6 Seige, Project Cars etc all max settings with GSync on. a very smooth and pleasant experience.
not noob questions at all. in fact, it gets to me a little bit that narrow minded people comment about products like this and put them in a bad light. carry on playing on a 60Hz IPS and posting on forums about how inferior TN is.
Cavallino, if you can afford it and the technology interests you then the benefits are one of those 'you cant go back' sort of upgrades. If any of that bothers you, go for the Swift IPS and get the best of both worlds, but as an ex IPS fanatic and someone who works for OcUK [who should really be encouraging you to spend more] the TN is honestly good enough.
put simply, unless you know you need IPS and you know why you need IPS then there is no real reason for you to go for IPS.
