** TODAY ONLY: DELL 27" G-SYNC ONLY £449 !! **

Just another question folks, so if you want the higher refresh to work, am I right in saying that if you are not outputting at that frame rate, you will not see the benefit of smoother refreshes? Or does it somehow compensate with some clever hardware?

If it was a normal 144Hz monitor and you weren't able to put out a constant 144 fps, it would still provide a smoother experience than a standard 60/75Hz monitor. However as the refresh rate is that much higher than the frames being output to it, it would cause issues that you may be able to see.

The joy of this monitor is that it has G-Sync. G-Sync is Nvidia's version of Freesync - what this does is allow the monitor to dynamically alter its refresh rate to match the framerate being output from the GPU - this results in a *much* smoother experience!

Aha! Makes sense! Much appreciated!

Dell is close to making me replace my U2412M, real close.

In the same position, I've got the same monitor, this is so tempting. its excruciating :D. Its just..... its a TN. I can't do light photo editing on it and i'm hoping we will get a dell ultrasharp(with pixel guarantee) 100+hz with g-sync and an LG panel next year.

You really can, my girlfriend is a professional photographer and was very upset about me selling my U3011. She uses my swift every once in a while and has commented on it being decent enough for her work. If she can edit photos for newspaper, magazines and exhibitions on a swift then you can do 'light photo editing' on this.

People really need to get out of that "TN isn't good" mindset.

If its really that important to you then a separate monitor for photo editing would be the best thing to do.

ummmmmmm. interesting. if it can do some very very light editing occasionally. My two main concerns are 1: if it looks washed out after calibrating with an iDisplay Pro and 2: its has no pixel guarantee like the ultrasharps.
In comparison to your U3011 would you say it looks in anyway washed out?
I appreciate any information because it is a lot of money for me

its not got the depth of colour that an ips provides but that is to be expected, i think the vibrancy of the colours is the main thing you will miss but it depends on the level you are editing at. the 3011 was an absolute beast for colours [mine was calibrated] but that doesnt mean that you cant edit on a TN

it will be 'good enough'. as i said already, if it is really important to you to have perfect colour accuracy then this is the tradeoff you must make, either that or buy a gsync IPS panel and get the best of both worlds

That's a very good price and I would love one of these but would probably need a gpu upgrade as well and just cannot justify spending £1000 anymore. :(

I done it. Ordered the dell. really wanted the g-sync or gaming. I called this morning and expressed my concerns about if there are any dead pixels and how many have been returned. I got told that i could return the item if I'm dissatisfied (i.e. dead pixels) within 14days just got to pay for P&P which is fantastic imo and also that the return rate (would not say the exact figure) but less 10% out of 100+ sold. So i thought minimum 90% i gonna get a good one. Which i imagine is a lot better than the acer and asus ips g-sync models. Of course i ideally do not want to return it at all, just want to be happy with my new monitor. Hopefully in 2-3years the technology will have matured a lot. At work until christmas day so i got something to open lol. Thank you overclockers forums people for writing down your opinions and experiences with this monitor.

I would love to buy one of these, but I would have to upgrade my PC for that res...

BTW Do you guys have ETA on the new Zowie mice lineup from BenQ?
