Today's the day...

What a shame, introducing the potential for a consumer group to reward irresponsibility rather than actually making people accountable for their actions. At least the OFT lost their claim that the contract terms weren't intelligable.

Perhaps the OFT will see sense later on, but sadly I have my doubts...

reward irresponsibility

I'll give you another personal example of my IRRESPONSIBILITY shall I.

As stated I have a 4 year old son and unfortunately his mother and I split up a few years ago.

Now, things got messy and I ended up taking her to court for the right to have joint custody of him.

I had no spare money to do this other than my overdraft/credit card which will take me years to pay off.

Am I irresponsible for wanting to be a good father to my son and borrowing off the bank ??

Open your mind a bit.

Would it be irresponsible to not get my car fixed for arguments sake and leave a child stranded at school because you cannot afford to get it fixed ?

You appear very narrow minded in your views.

More or less irresponsible than spending money that you're not authorised to spend?

If your situation is that bad, speak to your bank and sort out something arranged, it'll be a lot cheaper.

And the only way to get it fixed was to use an unauthorised overdraft?

I take it you never had the hindsight in your better, more financially secure days to make a fund for this sort of emergency?

Its not that bad ?

Im not going to divulge my financial situation on here and I was merely giving examples of situations I have faced.

I do not consider myself irresponsible for putting my child first at all times.

Either that or some of us spend the little money we have wisly and advoid unnecessary bank charges. ;)

but i dont waste my money. yes i go out and have a drink at the weekend (i dont need to but like to socialize)

but with my wage, once i have paid what i need to im lucky to have £100 to live on for the month!! maybe £200 if im lucky.

now you'll say get a second job, but by the time i get home its 7pm so would then start the bar job finishing at 3am home to bed by 4am and up again for work a 7. its not possible!!!

so credit is the only way to help out.

I have a mortgage, I have childcare to pay for, I am a single parent receiving no benefits from the state and the little money I do have spare each month goes on making sure my son has everything he needs.

You go figure.

Yes thats true.

It wasn't about just me wanting custody it was necessary because his mum was incapable of looking after him so I took the role of both parents at the time.
