Toggle or Hold

Hold aim always.
For single player often toggle crouch, for multiplayer almost always hold crouch but there are 1-2 exceptions.

I hate toggle, mainly because it means if you accidentally catch whatever key it is then you have to press it again to fix it.

The only time I use toggle is when a game relies of crouch for sneaking.

I used to prefer hold because then you always know what 'state' the function is in (as mentioned above no worries about accidental presses).

However I am starting to favour toggle a bit more these days, especially for crouch in games where you spent a lot of time sneaking around

Toggle crouch
Hold run
Hold aim

With run/aim I agree with HangTime in that you know the 'state' that you're in as well as it simply being a case of releasing the key to revert to normalstance.

I've always preferred toggle for crouch though. Probably due to games like Thief and the original Far Cry where you could be in crouch for ages (and where you combined with aim to increase accuracy - holding two keys for aim and crouch would be too much).

Hold for both

I hate CTRL for crouch though, it should be LEFT SHIFT. Left shift just feels right.

I'm in two minds. Left shift is a bit too easy to press so when things get frantic you press it by mistake when you should be running.

CTRL needs a bit more finger gymnastics so less susceptible to the panic press, but it can be a bit cramp inducing...

I always use toggle for crouch and hold for aim...and I find it quite difficult when there is not an option to hold to aim. Iirc you couldn't change it in Crysis without an ini change?(which I didn't find until 3/4 through the game)

Hold definately. Otherwise I always forget to toggle the key to stand up again, so making quick getaways rather slow!

Toggle crouch 100%, aim down site/zoom etc. never toggle, feels weird as hell.

Toggle run is the one thing I hate about keyboards, should have pressure sensitive mechanical keyboards out(do they!?) that can detect pressure and move a character like a gamepad does 'cause I'm one of those weirdos who walks on the sidewalks in GTA IV.

Can get used to either but preferably hold.

Toggle for COD is really easy to get used to though.

Found toggle in BF3 a little more annoying :P
