Tokyo Olympics 2020

new 3 against 3 mens basketball is exciting to watch - some yesterday. ... waiting to see climbing too.

I haven't investigated if you can get an introductory Discovery channel sub ... and maybe see coverage in UHD/4K ??.

BBC iplayer coverage still seems OK, even if you can't see as many sports live.

I see Emma McKeon swam 51.35 in her leg of 4x100m relay and the 100m FS WR is 51.71.

I thought times in relays counted as WR in the individual race?

Not sure about that

Did anyone see the upset of the games in the 400m freestyle men?

18 year old tunisian scraped into the final last qualifier and got outside lane then won gold knocking over 3secs off his pb :eek:

the aussie favourite couldn't believe it lol

Fantastic win for the Austrian in the Womens cycle road race this morning! Good to see a lot of underdogs beating the odds so far! Shame that Jade Jones got beat! not sure when it'll be decided if she can get through the Repecharge(sp?)

I saw that. Yeah, real upset!

I didn't see the women's road race but I watched Jade Jones get knocked out the competition. I don't know about the repecharge but would be good if she still gets another chance to compete. Bradly Sinden won his 68kg Taekwondo qualifier and is going for gold at 1.45pm.

Disappointing performances so far from Team GB. Looks like we'll be finishing out of the top 5 in the medal table.

UK Sport need to take a long hard look at their performance compared to London and Rio.

I was thinking the same. We don't have the stars we've had in the past. Adam Peaty should get gold and might be our only one. Maybe Max Whitlock too. Dinah Asher Smith probably silver. Pity there's no Mo Farah.

2012 / 2016 Gold winner Jade Jones lost in 1st round taekwondo. Very sad to see

Jade lost to the Rio bronze medalist. Ordinarily Jade wouldn't have fought her until later rounds, but the Iranian hasn't competed for her home country for several years and is competing under the Olympics refugee flag while living in Germany awaiting citizenship. Her coach is also an ex Team GB coach.

Very decent -68Kg mens final, Bradly Swinden narrowly missing out in a final round that swung one way then another.

No doubt there will be plenty of surprise results in this Olympics, from all sorts of factors including a massive reduction in competitive matches during Covid and the lack of spectators at Olympic venues.

I'm not even sure why they aren't allowing crowds (at least the local populace) in the venues. Watching some of the Tokyo streamers on Twitch, there are people everywhere going about their normal business. You wouldn't know there's a state of emergency declared.
