Hey again, thought I'd start a thread to discuss performance in the new Tomb Raider game.

Here are my settings and benchmark results. Tessellation is set to off as it causes Nvidia cards to CTD or worse, I've experienced this multiple times tonight along with many users on NeoGAF. I also have TressFX disabled because it looks rubbish and causes my SLI scaling to fly all over the place resulting in terrible frames at random times. For the benchmark I set AA to FXAA but I have been playing using SSAA x2 and also using triple buffer vsync with my FPS capped at 58 through Nvidia Inspector and I'm holding a stable 55-58 at all times.

I have only had a quick look at the benchmark & with everything on ultimate & FXAA I was getting 45fps average & 55fps average when overclocked (His7950boost.)

Looking forward to actually playing it later.. stuck at work atm:/

Whacked mine straight on ultimate settings, runs very well and looks brilliant.

In the benchmark I got a minimum of 3fps and an average of 59fps. The 3fps concerned me somewhat. I guess on Ultimate though something like that must be expected.

I think Rusty Galloway had a similar issue.

How is this game running on AMD hardware? Possible to max it out (excluding AA) on a single clocked 7970 at 1440p?

I want Tonester to get his other 7970 back and compare 5760*1080. I am willing to wager he will get more frames than me.

I'm running it with the specs in my sig and 1200p all ultimate and tressfx and I'm averaging 60fps mostly but it does have an annoying tendency to dip to mid 40's for no reason sometimes I also have 2xssaa on aswell maybe a driver update and patch should stable it up to 60 all the time hopefully.

The thing I have noticed is if you change the settings in game the frames drop to low 30's and the VRAM usage jumps from around 1456mb to at least 2800mb very odd I have to quit game to desktop and restart to get it back to normal memory leak maybe?

Thanks for this. I will likely run the exact same settings but 1440p with AA disabled. If i can achieve similar results to you with my clock speeds of 1172/1563 then ill be happy.

EDIT

Forgot to ask does this have an in game benchmark??

Nvidia users are kinda screwed since Nvidia didn't get final code until this weekend which obviously doesn't help them optimise for the game.

The new Tomb Raider reboot was released last night, and has so far been praised as a good game that brings back that nostalgia of the old Tomb Raider games. However, in our testing today, we have become aware of performance issues on NVIDIA GPUs while playing this game. We reached out to NVIDIA for answers and some information for you if you are experiencing slower than expected performance, it is not just you. We asked NVIDIA what the best driver for the game is right now, and NVIDIA's response is as follows:

Hi Brent. You can try using the latest beta driver however, please note that we are aware of major performance and stability issues with GeForce GPUs running Tomb Raider with maximum settings. Unfortunately, NVIDIA didn't receive final code until this past weekend which substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided. We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we would like to apologize to GeForce users that are not able to have a great experience playing Tomb Raider, as they have come to expect with all of their favorite PC games.

We then followed up asking about an ETA for the new driver, and got this response:

Hi Brent, this isn't solely a driver issue. The developer needs to make some changes on their end to fix their issues on GeForce GPUs. This will require code changes to the game.

Runs fantastically well.

I have it on Ultimate and did not turn anything off, very happy with it and have not actually noticed 3fps in game :)

Kind of glad I didn't rush out and buy a kepler GPU now :D it runs flawlessly and smooth as anything on my GTX675m aslong as I disable TressFX (haven't tried it on the 470s yet).

Here is a fix for Nvidia users and Tessellation. I have been playing for the last 2 hours with max settings, SSAAx2 and no TressFX at constant 60fps. Before the fix using the same settings I was lucky to play for 10 mins without a complete system lock up and very sporadic fps.

Tessellation fix for nvidia users.

Download nvidia inspector
Open nvidia inspector
Delete Tomb raider 2013 profile
Find hitman absolution profile
Link tombraider.exe
Change if you want af, aa and so on
Press apply button

And now hopefully you have no crash anymore with tessellation on. Have worked for me now an hour with no crash, use to crash before after 1-2 minutes after activating tessellation.

Thanks goes to a guy on steam for this fix.

Download Nvidia Inspector from google and use the picture below.

1. click this icon
2. find tomb raider 2013 in the profile box
3. click the red x to delete the profile, once done go back to the profile box and select the hitman absolution profile
4. click the icon with the green plus and select the tombraider.exe in the game directory
5. hit apply

I know the picture sucks but I need to go to bed :)

Tried the method you outlined above rankftw, but I still see a significant degradation in framerate when using tessellation. I also see texture corruption (similar to the old sparklies of old) when it's turned on, which are not present with it off.
Hitman Absolution doesn't exhibit them itself.
