Tomb Raider - Rise of the Raider PC

Anyone else's CPU usage really low?

Whoops, didn't have exclusive fullscreen enabled, enabled that as well as FXAA and disabled vignette & depth of field:

Stats still a bit similar.

I really need polaris/pascal GPU or/and a 34" 1440 freesync screen now :(

EDIT:

And yeah I am pretty sure this game needs a patch, VRAM usage is low at first but builds up slowly + CPU usage shouldn't be that low, should it?!

When Dying Light was released people kicked up a fuss that it was using way too much VRAM and so a patch was released and fixed it. Now Tomb Raider is available, people are saying we should upgrade to 980ti's?

How about optimizing the game better to use less VRAM at higher textures :o

I looked into this and can't recall where I read it but apparently the game uses up as much memory as it can, but doesn't actually use it all at once. Just look at the 980ti and titan x benchmarks. On the titan x, the memory usage can go above 8gb, but performance is pretty much the same as the 980ti. On my 980ti, it uses all of 6gb of vram, but I don't get any of the stuttering or large fps drops associated with vram running out.

I'm not qualified enough to say whether the game is 'optimised' or not, but on the surface, it's graphics seem to justify the amount of GPU resources its using.

Denuvo DRM is why the high mem use its well known to do this sadly but does guarantee sales as its virtually impossible to bypass.

It takes them a long time to crack the game so it's worth it. More developers might release on PC. Means we get more AAA games on PC rather than console exclusives.

Dropping textures from very high to high will see my 6GB mem use drop to 3GB.

I use very high anyway cos I've got the headroom, but just saying for those that want to reduce the memory usage.

Not if it causes issues regarding performance imo.

Besides piracy has little to do with the poor PC sale figures in comparison to consoles.

game looks amazing but the guys running at 1440p you must need sli to max this game out?

am playing on a 1080p 144hz screen, no aa but all settings apart from texture (high instead of v high) and game plays around the 55-65 fps, system is 6700k @ 4.6, 980ti and 16gig ram, super demanding game but still looks incredible and am loving it myself

980Ti and Gsync runs with everything maxed no issues.

Finished the game at 62% with some things found (no side tombs explored), at about 68% now. Lots of things to do yet but I love the game, nice story and stunning visuals with plenty of things to do.

Ran the game with the modified SLI profile and both 980 Ti's were pretty much working flat out at 80 to 98% usage on both cards from beginning to the end. This game works my cards harder than GTA 5.

Game was run at 3325x1871 (DSR) downscaled to 1080p, all settings maxed out (SMAA). The game was at 60fps about 90% of the time, not a single glitch or crash at all, I'd say this game is pretty well polished compared to some of the crap last year.

So far this is my favourite game in 2016 and I can't wait for the third one :)

Ive got a aoc g sync monitor, really think g sync is overhyped, no screen tear is great but the second the fps dips below 60 I can instantly tell, much rather run lower graphics and stay constantly above 90 fps just so the screen looks silky smooth, just my preference though

You are deluded if you think piracy on pc does not hurt sales. Even if it is just your try before you buy lot.

Did your fps rise much though?

Of course it will hurt sales but that isn't the main reason for games having considerably more sales on consoles than pc..... There are so many other factors that come into play that I would consider piracy to be a very minor one in comparison.

The main reason is that 95% of PC gamers are pirates. Yves Guillemot said so, so it must be true.
