Tomb Raider - Rise of the Raider PC

Worthabuy totally slated this game into the ground? (shocking AI, simplistic puzzles, totally linear gameplay) Is it all style no substance? Or is he playing to the crowd? (he also ****ged off witcher 3's combat quite a bit which i found uhhm odd!)

He is entertaining though :p

Basically what I said, then again I'm not one to big a game up just because its got nice GFX.

AI - yes i agree. On 'Normal/default' they are cannon ( arrow ) fodder

Puzzles - Some straight forward, though having played Tomb Raider before you tend to know what to look for. A couple of them i did find quite hard to figure out though ( this includes the optional ones ).

Linear - if you just race through from start to finish/follow the story line - then yes. In the same mold as any Batman/ Assasins Creed game can be linear. But exploring/collecting/unlocking/challenges are half of any game.

Witcher 3 combat is awful, though depends which route you go. Hardest difficulty, signs path you can end up with 100% chance of burning/shock about maybe a quarter of the way through the game. There is literally like two enemies who were marginal threats for 70+% of the game. It has a very broken, exceptionally easy combat system. The broken levelling system also made that worse in that you spend the majority of the game outside the first 10 levels fighting mostly mobs below your level.

As for this game, due to horrific performance of Win Store version I've given up playing it but up to the point I was at... animation poor, combat poor in as much as enemies are insanely stupid and pose zero threat at all. Everything is boringly easy, nothing is hard to find, nothing has been hard to work out. The first(of the new) games a couple years back was significantly better than this one, which feels pretty bad in comparison.

At £6 I feel I overpaid for it, though that is heavily effected by the woeful performance using the store version with no real fullscreen support.

He certainly is entertaining and I agree with some of what he said but I still really enjoyed the game and had me hooked more than some of the other AAA titles of late. One man's junk is another man's treasure they say.

I'm finding it hard to press on through the story lol. I really got sucked in to TR 2013 and was eager to know more of the main story and of course search every area. This one I'm kinda bored already and find my self not eager to go a little out of my way for the relics and stuff. Not sure what it is exactly.

And Lara oh my god so clunky! haha

Either way as for performance it's finicky. I've noticed core 3 on my cpu is basically doing 90% of the work and is taking a beating while the others just pretty much chill. Gonna put it down for a bit and come back later :(

for those having performance issues make sure you have both full screen mode and exclusive full screen enabled, not sure if it's a bug but i was very dissapointed with the performance i was getting with 980ti sli, tried the sli fix and still got ridicolous frame drops every now and then especially loading new areas, anyway i enabled exclusive fullscreen mode and its gone from 50fps on very high 1440p to 90 fps and no slowdowns loading new areas either.

Well I'm playing it on Hard difficulty and it is challenging at times as you take more damage, even when levelled up. Enemies also spot you from further away.

I enjoy the puzzles, they're not hard no, but they're fun at least, especially in later levels.

I don't understand this either, they say there is a profile for these two games, yet when u click on pre-definedprofiles they are not visible.

You don't need to find the profile, once you install the Crimson drivers they scan your games and add it automatically. Then it just works as it should as long as you switch to full screen.

The puzzles are a bit simple, no denying that, and the AI isn't great, they just stand still and let you headshot with the bow, but I'm enjoying the game at least..

+1 to this for me.

I have other games in my collection with tougher puzzles, I have other games with better AI, however I dont get the urge to binge play them. Something about the Tomb Raider 2013 reboot and also now with Rise of the Tomb Raider makes me want to binge play them. I find when looking at my games list I want to load them up which is a feeling that I dont get with many of my other games. That to me, makes the game a hit in my books.

I think its because everything else about the game really helps it come together in one package! Making it an experience not available in many other places.

Good graphics, Good story, Good game play and mechanics, Good soundtrack etc.

All in all just good fun games to play. Something that a lot of games fail to achieve today.

I'd agree with that. It's just one of those games that's easy to pick up and lose yourself for a few hours.
