Tommorow's Little Task...

Very true. Decent socket set and a fairly sized breaker bar are on the shopping list, I really underestimated how crap our collection of tools is. I had to go to work to borrow a flipping hammer

Turning out expensive but hopefully I'll use most of the stuff I've bought again, jack, axle stands, filter wrench, and now something to do the plugs probably. Adds up fast.

Its an expensive hobby :)

But if you buy a decent set to start with, they will last you for years :)

Don't make tools like they used to..

I had that fun with the sump plug the first time I changed my oil. But I couldn't be doing with taking it to a garage, or heaven forbid buy any tools. So I took the hacksaw to my mums garden rake and made a breaker bar :p

:D

Bet your mum loved you :D

Did the plugs today. Simple enough once I had a decent sized Spark Plug Wrench to do it with, and I moved all the bits out of the way. Right hand plugs were a bit of a bitch, but nothing too bad. Now runs beautifully.

Took the old oil to the tip and went to halfords earlier before I'd put it back together, and my god it sounds ace without the resonator boxes on the intake :D Need an induction kit I think :D

Dad's agreed to go halves on a decent socket set too

Nice one andi! Always good to see another n00b getting their hands dirty on their car.

Everyone has to start somewhere. The first job I ever did to my car was to replace the alternator on my first 214. Luckily, that proved quite easy as my dad had talked me through it the day before.

The second job I did was to replace the brake pads (from the old 214 to the new one). First side took me about an hour in the pouring rain! Second side took 30 minutes. I can now have the wheel off, pads swapped and everything put back together in about 15 minutes :)

As westy has said, when I tried to remove my downpipe and fit my exhaust by myself, I had no hope in hell! I thought... "Yeah, I've got myself a decent 3/4" socket set". You probably saw my thread where I had a picture of all the parts I wanted to fit. A day of sweating and swearing and all I'd accomplished was to change the exhaust manifold gasket. :D

Nice one on the oil change. Reminds me of when I did my first change on the 214. "Yeah this is easyyyyyyyyy..."

Cue hot oil running down the ratchet, onto my arm and then spilling onto the pavement. :o

It does get easier though. Just keep at it and you'll find it becomes second nature.

I'm going to tackle my driveshaft when I get paid in August... got a CV gaiter that needs replacing. I've already bought myself a nice large 1/2" breaker bar. Just need some sockets and an extension bar now.

Nice oil change :D Last summer I did the oil on the Mondeo, and thought "Hmm, this empty 5l oil container will be perfect for my waste oil."

Cut the side of it off, put the lid on, drained the oil... lid stripped it's thread under the pressure, 1 gallon of filthy oil on the drive. Nice.

Far from my first oil change too :o

good luck with the hubnut ;)

Unbolt the tie-bar and ARB links and break the balljoint and you can pull the hub out enough to lever the shaft out of the box.

Or so I've been told by quite a few people

He He, after doing the CV boots on an old Nova a few years back, changing CV boots is one of those crappy jobs I'd rather pay to have done ;)

I need to do one of mine and looking at the haynes manual (3 spanners hard!!) about it I think I agree. Iam going to cheat and treat it temporarily with one you wrap round and glue together :o

I used one as an emergency repair on a Fiesta (actually I just couldnt face doing it properly :D ). It was a pita to fit (end up covered in grease and superglue). Sold the car years later and it was still perfect (the cv boot that is, the car was a pos)

I havent spent much at all...
exhaust
brakes
alloys
interior was practically given to me..

I dont see the problem with that, you should see the guy who has made his look like a turbo, fully stickered up and has literally spent thousands on it.

It's ok, I think you just caught one of my posts where I was having to change all four tyres along with a service. But that's by far the most expensive thing I've done to the car !
