Hi!

I need a Sat Nav that will work all over Europe and I see that TomTom Europe is £79.99 on the app store. Now, that is fairly expensive but I have no issue paying if it's decent, I suspect it is.

Anyone here use it? What do you think?

I'll need some sort of car holder too that I can buy from a high street store, any suggestions for one of those?

Cheers.

It's never let me down since I've had it (around a year)

I use it a lot for work, I drive most days and it's never failed to get me to my destination. Make sure you have an in car charger of course though ;)

I used TomTom UK and Ireland on the iP4 and that was very good, so I guess this would be similar but £80 does seem a bit steep, the price was always ~£50. Buy it last minute if you need too, it may drop again.

Thumbs here from me. I bought it for about that price too, naturally the UK version is cheaper (the £50 one people are talking about?) but I thought it was worth paying more for Europe so I have that option (which is likely). Never let me down, use it all the time but as said you will definitely need an in car charger as it uses the battery incredibly quickly.

There was a time when the Europe version was only a few pounds more, the issue is that it takes up way more space, so it's then a case of whether you want that much on your phone if you aren't driving in Europe that often.

I've got the UK version on a 3G, previously had a proper TomTom from about 2006.
It's good because you have it on you with your phone & things like Map updates are free, when they weren't with a standalone unit.

It does eat battery, so as has been said, make sure you can power it.

I find it sometimes is a little slow rerouting but I think that's actually the fact that the 3G is like treacle.

They were always very similarly priced, the UK/Ireland one around £42 and the Europe one around £50. They were at that price for over a year as far as I remember.

+1 for the tomtom App, really works, gets me where I want to go with no stress, reroutes quickly on an ip4, as per others it does eat battery life so carry a charger.

Paid £70 I think when it first came out, wasn't brilliant on the 3G (poor GPS chip, no compass) but on the iPhone 4 it's been perfect.

IMHO a better buy than a standalone unit as in the two years I've had the app I have never had to pay for a map update. Also you can do things like sign up for "HD Traffic" for one month to cover a trip for just a couple of quid, not sure that's possible on a standalone?

One of the guys has just got it for his iphone 3gs and is having nothing with problems, since the last apple update or tom tom update it just doesn't pick up the gps. Believe there are a few complaints on various forums, google it before you buy as I believe tomtoms response was buy the in-car kit which is nearly as expensive as buying a standalone tom tom.
