I have the TOM TOM One V2 and i've notived a fair few roads are not updated i.e new bypasses. and some roads are not even featured

How are the maps updated. I connect to TOM TOM home through the PC once a week to get updates for the software etc. Can or is this how the maps are updated, or would you have to buy a whole new SD/memory card?

looking at my TOMTOM i have the UK and Ireland v660.1199
does anyone have a more up to date version. I bought my TOM TOM about 6 months ago.

would i be right in saying TOM TOM use the TeleAtlas data and maps?
When i go to the TeleAtlas site and view their maps some of the roads that are not on my TOM TOM are actually on the maps on their site.

as far as im aware the updates that go on to TOM TOM are nothing to do with the actual maps, these get released as map packs every year and you have to buy them, there not cheap either, bit of a shame really, the missus paid around £600 for mine a couple of years ago, and to have to pay another £50-£70 just to update the maps seems a bit steep.

edit:

Just checked the latest prices, its 59 euros for the updated UK map

If you've got the UK version you'll have Tele Atlas, Europe version has Navteq.

The maps aren't updated very often at all and I think you have to pay to update them :(

EDIT- bit sloooow, sorry :o

you should be able to overwrite it, just download the latest software first, and make a backup of your TOM TOM just incase it goes wrong.

however - map pack updates may have to be bought as collections (e.g. western europe maps) in which case you would need a bigger SD card (more memory to store them).

I think it's a bit disgusting of TomTom to charge for map updates for existing customers... Soon we will have to pay for windows updates as well?

Had a massive arguement with my dad about tomtom, he thought map updates were free. He's got the TT Go 300, and even when I went onto the website he still didn't believe me. Even now he still thinks get free map updates.

Firmware/system updates are free.

some map uddates seem to be free, I have a TT 510 and there is a new road on it now which wasn't on ( or even open ) when I bought it

soon you'll have to enter your credit card details in the windows update screen as well, where is this world going to?!?...

TomTom 710's went from a Teleatlas map, to a Navteq, but the newest map's back on teleatlas again. Some blindingly obvious errors still in it. Missing a major oneway street in my local town, which has been 1 way now for the last 5 years or more.

Don't bother, the V6.60's are NavTeq, and the 6.75's are Teleatlas. Seems that the NavTeq's are more accurate in the UK, while the Teleatlas maps are better for the rest of europe.

Not worth the upgrade. The 2006 NavTeq's have slightly better UK coverage.

However if you have TomTom V6.5x's then they are older Teleatlas, in which case the newer teleatlas is an improvement, but still has lots of out of date road. (like over 5 years out of date in places). Very sad really.

I agree with Dr_Evil, the updates should be free, because they are still very out of date. Would be better value if they actually fixed the roads. Loads of tomtom users reported their errors to NavTeq because thats what map they had, and now they switch back to Teleatlas, so now all those map faults have to be registered with Teleatlas.. Pitty that TomTom dont have an update system which could register errors with both mapping systems.

in case there are any hair salons on these new roads ?ah sorry, you mean "TomTom" owners  :D

There are also male TT owners !! ;)

(whether they use the damn thing is another question though...)

I was stopped by a copper a few weeks ago in glasgow he said i turned right at a set of traffic lights which was a no right turn. I was honest and told him that i did not see the sign but that my tom tom one told me to turn right at those lights, which it did. He told me to pay more attantion to the road and signs instead of tom t*t and told me to be on my way. I have been sent in the wrong direction so many times by tomtom and also it seems to hate many roundabouts (not knowing how many exits a roundabout has).

Tomtom also seems to love the M25

Want to go from Aberdeen to Glasgow? Take the M25

Want to go to Tesco on the other side of town? Take the M25

OK so that's a bit of an exaggeration, but i wish there was an option I could set that was 'never ever go on the M25 ever if remotely possible.'
