TomTom Released For the Iphone

Can the mount definatelly be purchased seperately?
I need a SatNav for this afternoon and cant be bothered hooking up my ancient SatNav...lol.

I have an N95 8gb and just got a 3GS and I have to say there is really no comparison between the two, the iPhone is far superior in every department except the camera and to be honest, the camera is perfectly adequate for adhoc snaps. Back to the mobile phone forum for you :p

Well i've just done two things the iPhone can't do - Multitask and change the battery. So there :p

I use a MacBook and run Mac OS X so i'm allowed in here ;) But yes, I will get my head out of this thread :D

Got fed up with waiting for Tom Tom so went and bought Co Pilot two weeks ago. For £26 thoughtit was worht the gamble.

To be honest it's not bad, just as good as the Tom Tom version 7 I had on my HTC Touch HD.

Not going to swap it for Tom Tom now it's released. If your a Tom Tom fan through and through and want the brand you probably won't consider co-pilot but if you just want a sat nav that does the business at a cheap price take a look at co-pilot. Lots of enhancements coming through soon as well according to the web site.

Taff

I also bought Co-Pilot just a few days ago for my 3G. I don't drive anymore, but satnav would be useful on company trips when we get lost in Gloucester...

Co-Pilot ain't bad, but tbh I think the 3G struggles with it and I was expecting scrolling to be rather jerky. There just isn't enough punch in that CPU. The app is packed with features, and the most annoying thing is it's interface and built in keyboard - it doesn't utilise the standard OSX Mobile keyboard, but its own non-qwerty thing :/

Not sure about date, but you can view the manual and other bits and bobs pertaining to the dock and its FCC approval:

Thought this thing will be able to transmit music via FM, turns out it just uses a 3.5mm jack (which unfortunately my radio does not have).

But, it does house a SiRFstar chip inside it! Kind makes you wonder what the point of sticking the Hammerhead 2 IC inside the iPhone. Bit of a slap in the face for Infineon really :p

That's because SIRFstar is a better choice to start with (it's been GPS king for years). Add to that the facts that it isn't having to contend with about 9 other radios on the same PCB, and it will have room for a proper GPS antenna.

From what I've heard, TomTom with the built-in Hammerhead IC is a bit prone to taking excursions (particularly at roundabouts).

Indeed, but emphasis on "been".
SiRF have lost MAJOR market share due to sloppy marketing of its product. Likes of Broadcom and STMicro (Automotive GPS) and ST Ericsson (Mobile Phone GPS) are now just eating into their market share. Lucky they have been bought out by CSR recently as things were just going downhill for them.

Tbh, iPhone is not the only phone with multiple RFICs. I remember my HP iPaq which was a 3G/WiFi/BT/GPS device (which incidentally utilised tomtom) was nowhere near as bad as tomtom on the iphone so perhaps it maybe a combination of multiple RFIC sources and a poor GPS IC in the form of Hammerhead 2. And I gotta echo what you said about "taking excursions at roundabouts" because thats exactly what happens.

To be fair, my stand alone TT720 has issues with "excursions on roundabouts" since last software update and map - it's drawing them at 1 frame per second with prediction of your route ahead which creates odd situations where at medium size roundabouts with two exits next to each other it shows your position advancing in bunny jumps already at the neck of correct exit and tricks you into thinking you should be turning right there, right now, and few seconds later you are greeted with "turn around where possible".

Good find on that linky! Device looks good. Any ideas on price?

Just a thought, would this work with an iTouch seen as TomTom appears to rely on the GPS within the dock rather than in the handset?
