Everytime I read a thread like this I always see people come on and get irate about the term "toning" especially the people that are in the know on this sort of stuff. Why is this? If the guy says he wants to tone up, thenhe wants to tone up. Whats wrong with that? Is it just that its such a loose term? Surely to the majority of people it means become more muscular? I just dont see whats wrong with people saying it thats all :) Not that I was jumping at you "One more solo" just I see it a lot.

Because it is a loose term and you're not going to get anywhere being loose.

People get irate for several reasons. Firstly, it's incorrect. Sure, if I say "your an ass" I mean "you're an ass" but it still annoys people.

Secondly, the reason that most of the people who go to the gym get crap results after years of training is misinformation. "Do 15-20 reps for toning" is why men and women are frustrated with their lack of results. Yes, we can all imagine what a "toned" body is like, but if people continue to think of it as a single act you can do, they'll carry on spending their time doing high-reps-low-weight exercises and buying lateral-thigh-trainers, instead of lifting and fixing their diet.

Best thing would be eat a bit more starchy food and a bit of protein. Aerobic exercise with some weight reps.

You'll never be an Arnold Schwarzenegger. If you're slight use it to your advantage and do something appropriate.

Quick OT: Are "Strachy" carbs, for all intents and purposes, the same as "complex" carbs?

On the back of a bag of Potatoes, it will say "% of which complex carbs", whereas on the back of a bag of pasta, it might say "% of which starch". I always assumed starch was another way of saying complex.

I just had an epiphany! People say "tone" because saying "lose fat" implies they have fat - which they don't like!

I want to tone my abs up.... turn all this fat into muscle ;)

What you need to do is buy yourself a muscle stimulator, grab a beer and sit back. 5 minutes a day and you'll have those washboard abs in no time :p

I purchased mine 6 months ago and ive used it for 45 minutes a day, every day since then. I can actually curl dumbels with my individual abs now.

I fear I may have exceeded the recommended daily use.

Exceeding the recommended daily use will only turn you into a pro athlete. You are ok.

When ever I want to cut some fat, I just avoid simple carbs (except after I lift).

All my carbs come from fruit and veg, and I have a clearly visible six pack most of the year, except these little periods I have where I just eat whatever the hell I want. I should really stop doing that.

Have you got your IFBB Pro card yet? If not you need to up the usage to 50mins per day.......that's what Jay did! :D

Sounds like you have the right idea mate :)

Unless you're a pro and you only do this as a hobby then where's the harm in having blow-outs every now and again? Keeps us sane... I eat and train religiously for long periods and then a birthday will come up or stag do and that's it, I'm out on a 3 day bender! Gym and diet out of the window lol :D

Everything in moderation!
