Sorry to hear about your Mum
Asothers have said, it's usually 5-6 times a year that the NHS will look at removing them. I've had tonsillitis a couple of times recently, one of which I was really struggling to breathe - ended up calling 111 at 4 am.
My daughter is 3 1/2 and she gets it quite frequently - 3 times in the last 4 months and a few times previous to that. We're waiting for an ENT appointment to discuss as even when she doesn't have it, her tonsils are, to quote the last GP who saw then "Wow huge!".
You're probably that bit more run down at the moment due to life in general - give it a while I guess and see if it returns but keep the Docs involved all the time.
