What happened to that thread that went on for ages where someone was going to count up all the votes to make an Overclockers top 100 console games? Have they been counted yet? :)

Perfect Dark was excellent, no doubt about is. As a game I'm not sure that it could ever beat Goldeneye for the simple fact that you were Bond. You could be Oddjob or various other Bond villains eventually. The "Bond Factor" made it a better game for me even if Perfect Dark was supposedly better.

Being Bond didn't make it a better game :p Joanna was cool. Elvis was awesome too! The game itself was not better, definetly not.

Again, in no particular order (gosh, I love these threads)...

Super Mario 64 - The first fully 'interactive cartoon'. Proved 3-dimensional games could be as intuitive as their 2-dimensional forebares.
Final Fantasy VII - In terms of both design and popularity (especially in the west), it brought the series to a new level. About as (for want of a better word) magical as a video game has ever appeared to me.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Miyamoto's magnum opus, in my humble opinion. So much mystery, intrigue, inventiveness, fun and sublime gameplay crammed in to a relatively tiny game world.
Super Metroid - Exploration, problem-solving based platform blasting at its finest.
Super Mario Kart - Still my favourite MK game. The feeling of being on the verge of going out of control, yet somehow managing to keep your cart stuck to the track as your speed becomes ever greater; a concept that has been completely abandoned by literally all of its younger siblings. A real shame as the original took incredible skill to be adept at.
Super Mario Bros. 3 - First console game I ever properly played. Incredibly revoultionary in its day.
Goldeneye - The first console FPS to provide an experience unavailable on the PC. Great graphics, plenty of new ideas, plenty of challenges and fun and my god, that multiplayer... Happy memories.
Street Fighter 2 - OMG, it was like, having an arcade machine in your living room.
ICO - I loved this gem. Probably the most joyous, 'gamer's game' to ever grace the Playstation 2.
Secret of Mana - Such a beautiful little game. This, along with Final Fantasy 3 and Chrono Trigger, really sparked my interest in SquareSoft and Japanese fantasy in general.

Of course, many of my recent favourite games are PC exclusives, but I thought best not to mention.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. :)

As for Goldeneye vs Perfect Dark, didn't Goldeneye sell about 8 million compared to PD's 2 million? That's a lot more people who haven't played Perfect Dark.

Perfect Dark would have beaten Goldeneye had they managed to squeeze a bit more power from the n64 to get the framerate under control (the framerate was terrible it was very hard to see exactly what was going on sometimes especially with the lights everywhere and low res TV sets). Also the last few missions were too unbelievable with all sorts of aliens and lasers, just wasnt as convincing a game as Goldeneye.

For me though the framerate was the deciding factor.

I would say for best ever games you have to include super mario world, super metroid, gran turismo, metal gear solid and Final Fantasy 7 (possibly this would be no1! An awesome awesome game). Cant think of anymore although thinking of the n64 games I had they were all pretty awesome!

For me it did :D

Perfect Dark was an incredible game but when it comes down to it I played Goldeneye so much more than I did PD so that's why I think it was better. Horses for courses though, I can understand why some people prefer Perfect Dark though with it's sci-fi setting. Those suitcase guns that you could plant on the walls were great.

I just found a website that has software that enables you to create your own levels on Goldeneye and play via an emulator. They had the train level on multiplayer!

In random order:

Goldeneye (N64)
Driver (PS)
Halo (XB)
Sonic (MD)
Res Evil 4 (GC)
Gran Turismo (PS)
PGR 3 (360)
Gears of War (360)
Rainbow Six: Black Arrow (XB)
Sega Rally (Saturn)

Seeing lots of PC conversions listed here, almost all of which were better on the PC, but anyway, my quick attempt at a list would be something like, in no order-

Gran Turismo - the first one - completely redefined racing games
Iron Solider (jag) - best Mech game ever by a mile
Adventure (atari) - boy those dragons were scary (at the time)
Halo - just a great game. Story, graphics, music, gameplay, even co-op, it had everything
Gotham series - for offering new gameplay modes and making racing fun again
Jet Set Radio Future - bizarre but awesome, we need a 360 one
Tekken/Tekken2 - perfect gameplay
Wipeout series - graphics, design, speed and great music
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (intellivision) - brilliant game
GTA3 - endless fun, the coolest game ever

finally someone mentioned resident evil 4:D

mine our...

Resident Evil 4 GC/PS2/PC - redefined the series and injected it with new life, graphics are still the best around imho...

Zelda Twilight Princess Wii - still very new and seems so every time i play it, it has become an instant classic.

Gears of War 360 - didnt think this was going to be good despite the hype... but turned out to be fantastic though rather short in single player. really intense.

Final Fantasy XII PS2 - again like RE4 & ZTP puts a spin on an aging series and brings it right up to date with fresh ideas and great graphics.

Dead Rising 360 - capcom have done it again, just so much fun to play, good to go back to time and time again just to **** about:D

Devil May Cry 3 PS2/PC - after the second installment being underwhelming, it was fantastic to see the 3rd return home and better the original.

Resident Evil Rebirth GC - loved the original, but this blew me away, better story, awesome graphics and the atmosphere is fantastic

Shadow of The Collossus PS2 - what a game, so unique, music is brilliant and the scale of the world and collossi is jaw dropping

Silent Hill 4: The Room PS2/PC - put a twist on the series and ditched the traditional "light on chest", but made it a lot freakier and scarier.

Metal Gear Solid 3 PS2 - was hard to choose the best metal gear, but i say this due to backdrop and cutscenes were a joy to watch, i thought it was very rewarding.

thats about it, just missing out really was Vagrant Story and Suikoden on the PSone... awesome RPG's also only selected(or tryed to:D) one game from each series...
